After studying ash for years, these trees are still my fall favorites! Some of the last to leaf out in spring, and some of the first to change color in the fall. #FraxinusAmericana#FallFoliage
So excited to share that Yinuo successfully defended her MF research this morning, on #WhatsKillingFir in New Brunswick. Very proud of her presentation and success! Congratulations!! #MF#UNB#ForestHealth#Dendro ๐ฒ๐
Please don't comment how "warm" is actually a great thing to say about a candidate "regardless of gender." Nothing wrong with being warm (or helpful, caring, etc.); being warm/caring/helpful is great! The issue is the opportunity costs of stating it within a reference letter.
Past year = new job, new state, and new responsibilities. I enjoy what I do, but really miss teaching. I recently served as an instructor in a #ContinuingEd program, and was told "the plant disease section was FASCINATING!" #PlantDisease and #AltAc teaching for the win!
PhD student position in forest management and bark beetle defense in my lab at WA State U! Use tree-ring resin duct metrics to quantify defense over the life of trees to explore tradeoffs with growth. Focus on SE loblolly pine, also work in NW,SW forests https://t.co/seRXLAaHLj
@kiramhoffman @BLCoulthard@treeringsociety @DisturbedDendro @tswetnam @jillharvey_fire @epispheric @LoriDanielsUBC A recent grad student in my lab used MtreeRing. It worked well on easy cores and had great potential. But for more difficult cores (multiple breaks, twisted, rings not perpendicular to mount) we had to switch to CDendro/CooRecorder to use multiple paths. Happy to discuss more.
This fall we've been a little (or a lot) homesick for New England and Atlantic Canada. It's not Maine #FallFoliage, but Montana's trying hard to impress us! #WesternLarch#ConiferForests of the West.
As a woman who participated in a very supportive women's group during grad school, I can definitely say that these friendships and support from fellow women in academia were critical to my continuation and success. So excited to see more research into this concept!
@CMacQuar@foresterlacey Great suggestion, SFM certainly presents like this! Needles turn bright red and the tree dies within in a single growing season. Because it happens so rapidly, needles are usually retained for 1-2 years.
Had the opportunity to see my first cone cutter in action this week. It may be a pretty simple tool (old butcher knife screwed into a chopping block), but it would have been a huge help when I taught Plant Structure and Development! #PlantBiology#PinusPonderosa
When I can't be out in the field, I can still search the neighborhood for #PlantDiseases. Found some great #BacterialCanker on #Cherry this afternoon. Spring's the perfect time to find it, when fresh gumming occurs! #WFH#Pseudomonas
Really proud of Wushuang, an #MF student at #UNB. She just successfully published her first manuscript on #RedSpruce provenance trials! #PiceaRubens#ClimateChange
