@sstaedtler8787@ADrovetta A missed offside resulting in a game-deciding goal ruins a lot of fans whole world cup. Having to delay your celebration for 5% of your goals is a price worth paying for accuracy.
@therealrthorat@RastogiCurran@RedRaiderGator Have you ever watched the last two minutes of a close basketball game? They take an eternity because somebody is deliberately fouling another player to gain an advantage for their team. Perhaps the most anti-competitive part of any professional sport.
@therealrthorat@RastogiCurran@RedRaiderGator Eliminating offside in soccer would decimate the game. It would turn into a completely different sport. That’s why the law exists.
Also, I’m American you numbskull. We have situations like this in every sport and we put up with it.
@therealrthorat@RedRaiderGator There are scores of examples of NFL and collegiate defensive players dragging a ball carrier into the endzone to score because it is more advantageous than letting them go down or just straight up letting a running back score from the 2yd line and not trying to make a tackle.
@Mayzomatic This is not the equivalent of a "bad PI call." You can argue the Croatia offside call was a "bad offside call"
If a WR got tackled before touching the ball and it was called PI and somebody bitched about it, you would say they don't understand the sport seven days a week. C'mon
@joan_cm That’s a quirk of Gillette Stadium (Boston). The side of the stadium with a lighthouse also has a big gap. The Germans won the toss for selecting sides and chose to kick on that side. The other side is much more normal but would have been in front of the Paraguayan fans.
@FistOfTheTitan@NepentheZ You said “It feels like VAR gets used more to take goals away from the game and not award them.”
I’m simply saying that VAR cannot award goals, by definition. I agree that if corners can be overturned to goal kicks the default should be to call a corner if there’s doubt.
@FistOfTheTitan@NepentheZ VAR by definition cannot award a goal. Like every sport that has replay, the refs are told to let play unfold if there’s a tight call because it’s easier to call back a goal than it is to give back a scoring chance that was unfairly denied by a bad call.
@Roubsss_@valgbtquez Not basically. It is. If the goal of every good rider who competes in your series is to advance to a faster, more competitive series (Moto2 and then MotoGP), you by definition have a feeder series. That's saying nothing about the age cap of 28 that cements it as a feeder series.
@AndrewGresenz@TravisRockhold@ESPYS I understand why Reddick is the nominee. He has five wins this season including a crown jewel. But he did fuck all last season which should be included in the scope of the award, otherwise it's just an award based on February through May of 2026.
@AndrewGresenz@TravisRockhold@ESPYS NASCAR's candidates for DOTY are
1) the defending champion who hasn't won a race in over a year
2) current points leader with 5 wins this season & 5 wins in the last yr
3) current runner up in points (by 8), last year's runner up, 4 wins this year, and 7 wins in the last 365 days
