Spent the day running the projectors at the Leicester Museum of Tech Xmas Steam Up. 2 x #35mm Kalee Indomitables (1920s silent machines with sound heads added for the coming of sound!) A #Kalee 12 with locally made BTH lamp house and a 16mm cartoon cinema running all day too. 😁

My @asda has 2 huge digital projectors in the car park. Tonight they went live & are now screening a promo ad for @CadburyUK. As a film historian I can tell you that this is exactly how motion picture ads started out before cinemas, just projected on the walls of buildings.
A most important member of our @PhoenixLeic family has died. In every way admired for his film knowledge, his passion for film and for his teaching, he will always be remembered as an incredibly kind and fun person to work with. He will be missed by all. Much love to his family.
This is so sad. Alan was a lovely man and so important to the Leicester comedy scene and @PhoenixLeic
Sending lots of love to his family and friends who knew and worked with him.
Film academia mourns one of its most influential and prolific leading lights. As a student I knew much of David's and Kristin Thompson's work, and later, as a professional, I was able to meet David several times. Sad news today.
It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of David Bordwell. Professor Bordwell’s contributions to film theory and history have been instrumental in shaping our understanding of cinema as an art form and storytelling practice.
#16mm Film in the @RailwayMuseum for the 'Friends' Christmas lecture. There's always something magical about being locked in the museum after the public have left. 👍😁👍
@maelduin_ross The pathe 17.5mm looked almost like 16mm it is actually not that easy to spot the difference without a closer look. The centre perf 17.5mm is a much older and a different system. Check out Charles Urban's Biokam system. 👍
People say I'm hard to buy for at Xmas. This year I'd like one of these.. It's a Pathescope 17.5mm projector. This one is a silent but there was also a sound version. Can I have one of these? Originals are hard to find as most were converted to 16mm when the format was dropped.
@maelduin_ross In the UK we had a pre-production 17.5mm film format for mastering optical tracks similar to your full coat mag version in Australia. This short lived format had 35mm perforations on one side only and a large optical track on the other edge. It didn't last long.
@maelduin_ross No the Pathescope machines were only ever intended #17. 5mm but as they were so well made (& expensive) people were swift to have them modified once the format had been dropped. Mutli-gauge machines became common after the war with Hertier and Bolex being leaders in that field.
Flying the @bfi flag today and celebrating light on the silver screen with collectors, film fans and fellow archivists. @PhoenixLeic for screenings & talks about caring for collections with #FilmIsFabulous & @CATHResearchDMU
Very sad to see this. Every museums worst nightmare. I hope the clean up goes swiftly and that nothing is too badly damaged or destroyed. @MuseumofMaking
Devastated to wake up today to this scene. We won't be opening today as I'm sure you can all understand. There will be a big clean up operation once the water recedes. Stay safe everyone
OTD in 1984 - 9th October 1984 – Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends, based on The Railway Series by the Rev. Wilbert Awdry, was first premiered on ITV.
A before and after from a post I saw on Facebook. A sad tale of compulsive hoarding and council enforced clearence, but I see #16mm films! As curators we have visited sad sights like this before. Who knows what's on those reels but they look well looked after and labelled.
