With all these feels bad things that are happening around the big Riftbound tournaments. I was trying to explain them to a non-TCG friend during a lunch.
His summary was: "life ain't a movie, sometimes the Hero dies"
I want to pass on that wisdom.

Im so grateful for the hommies when traveling. Without them this weekend would have been a disaster off the charts. Even such a poor experience was still a weekend with the friends.

Before I start my negative rant; I want to congratulate the fencing master @Ricemaster92 for getting his second best of Fiora.

My weekend was the polar opposite. I found out the night before Friday that I had purchased the wrong badge (500€ for a spectator pass) this means I couldn’t play the main event. :)))). I will take blame for this. However because I found out late I could not sign up for almost any constructed event. Saturday I played 2 sealed events (6 bo1) and was in the hall from 10 till 20ish. ODE were up for 1h? It was as poor a experience as others have written.

Having said that: I want to thank the judges and support staff who as individuals went above and beyond to help however at some point their hands became tied by the reality of the various situations. Never did I have the feeling of them not wanting to help.

Recently there were some comparisons made between FaB and Riftbound. While financially the events are not comparable I do want to say that it’s not all milk and honey. Such huge events as a total are shiny and glamorous but for the individual I would wager FaB has the significantly more pleasant user experience. No endless lines(I think people waited for 2h+ in the sun to get into the venue on Friday)? no overcrowded tables no people cutting every line whether: toilet/prizewall/ticket pick up. Also as you may read the cheating allegations /scumbaggery was again rampant. The rules and judging is catching up to the complex game however this is not something that helps you as a player in the moment.

To not go on forever: yes the money is great and UVS/Riot are doing an amazing job with Riftbound but this shiny tower also casts a huge shadow.

This is not supposed to be a hate post toward UVS/Riot/TOs. It is just the reality of a successful game both in terms of popularity and financial incentives that there are very real negative side effects.

Stats show you EXACTLY what they show you. How many players on a deck lost against a deck.

They don't show you whether it was the deck or the pilot, whether the matchup is different at top vs casual level, whether any apparent weakness is addressable via tech. For sub-100 samples they're individual stories presented together moreso than stats tbh.

They can ignite your interest in trying to answer the above when you see Shen at 26% WR, but they're not answers.
