Actual, legitimate question: Why did Karen Bass obliterate Nithya Raman on election day but lose to Nithya Raman on mail in ballots? Why did Nithya in particular do so well on mail in ballots?
Karen Bass' nightmare scenario: an opponent who can intelligently call out her failures on housing and transit, while offering a way forward on reducing needless city bureaucracy. Kudos to Los Angeles for rejecting the rage-bait of the utterly unqualified douche Spencer Pratt.
Nithya Raman took 40% of the votes in today's drop & has overtaken Spencer Pratt for the second spot. She's now up close to half a point.
Bass: +15,691 (32.81%)
Raman: +19,096 (39.93%)
Pratt: +8,489 (17.75%)
Pretty safe to say Raman has unlocked a spot in the runoff.
JUST IN: Progressive Nithya Raman will advance to the general election and face incumbent Karen Bass in the Los Angeles mayoral race, according to Decision Desk HQ projections.
It’s over for former reality TV villain Spencer Pratt.
Ok nobody knew who she was and she has no base, except she beat the incumbent councilman in 2020 and in 2024 won reelection with an outright majority in the primary. LA politics posters either liars or totally ignorant and living in bubbles.
If you talk to Karen Bass’ camp (I have) she would much prefer Spencer Pratt in the runoff. In a blue city with an unpopular incumbent, Nithya Raman is a far bigger threat. Which is why all these kooky theories that Bass is rigging the vote so Nithya will win make zero sense.
A lot of people frustrated w/ how long results are taking also complain that we don't get more frequent updates, but we could get faster results if we had fewer updates. County only started doing daily updates last cycle after people complained about the lag between updates.
LA media is not examining just how bad things had to get for a Councilmember & ally of the Mayor’s to stand up and say, “Our city deserves better.” People want to paint Nithya’s choice as a reflection of her loyalty when it’s truly a reflection of how bad things have gotten.
If Eunisses stays over 50%, it will mean that Karen Bass is the only one of the nine incumbents that will be on the ballot in November. All others won except for the deeply troubled Hydee Feldstein Soto.
Karen Bass has nothing to be proud of.
Assessing Steve Kroft's indictment would be much easier if there was specificity to his complaints.
What specific editorial decisions were disastrous? What specific asks were akin to murdering the show? Let's evaluate on the merits!
Hasan Piker on Spencer Pratt: “He is everything I despise about American politics. A random dumbass with no work, no investment whatsoever in the realm of politics completely seizing the right lane in the LA Mayoral race by just being a fucking asshole on the internet because there are hundreds of thousands of Los Angelenos that are like we should kill homeless people”
LA’s city attorney has been one of the most prominent elected officials — and especially legal officials — opposed to state housing legislation to boost density in cities, most notably SB 79. And she’s been ousted in the primary
A 1940s-era single-family lot in Northridge is proposed for 16 townhomes under SB 1123, which allows developers to split vacant parcels and build starter homes without public hearings.
