@JamesAFurey Spot on. We don't ask a novice sailor to navigate the stormy ocean without a map. Why do we expect kids to do it with their education? Giving kids autonomy is great, but it shouldn't replace adult guidance.

@JamesAFurey Confusing discovering with constructing knowledge is easily one of the biggest missteps in education. Guided clarity always beats unguided frustration.
For some groups of students, the biggest challenge isn't teaching reading comprehension.
It's simply getting them to read.
They will do anything to avoid it: stare at a wall, talk to a neighbor, go to the bathroom.
And the teacher often spends much of their energy just trying to get students to make a genuine attempt to read.
@Bored_Teachers This is exactly why handwriting and fine motor practice still matter so much today. Typing is efficient, but pen-to-paper builds a totally different kind of focus and brain engagement.
@RufusWilliam Couldn't agree more. When they engage with a rich subject hands-on and see their own growth, it shifts their mindset from "I can't' to What else can I learn?"
Hands-on learning doesn't need to be complex to be effective.
A quick bat tracing & counting printable helps build fine motor skills and early math through hands-on play.

@usedgov Education is never one-size-fits-all. When decision-making stays closer to parents, teachers, and local communities, kids get the personalized support they actually need.
@DrClaireEdu This is beautiful. Sometimes we get so caught up in 'teaching a lesson' that we forget how powerful humor and lightheartedness can be. Thank you for sharing this reminder!
@TolentinoTeach Finding the right balance is so tough right now. Without clear, consistent boundaries, kids actually end up feeling less secure. Leniency without accountability doesn't help students grow, but pure punishment without guidance doesn't work either. Consistency is key.
