Said Ferjani appeared remotely before the court of appeal, announcing a hunger strike over being denied an in-person, fair trial. Despite deteriorating health, the court moved forward without hearing him. His defence has withdrawn notices to protest against these violations. 👇

Praise be to God alone,
The Defense Committee of Said Ferjani wishes to inform you of his decision to enter into a hunger strike for three consecutive days, starting today, Monday, 22 December 2025, in response to the call of Professor Ayachi Hammami.
This action is to express his rejection of unfair trials and unjust rulings, and in support of freedom.
My father’s sentence for this case has been reduced from 13 years to 10 years. Along with his 13 years for the “instalingo” case, he will now be serving 23 years in total.

Press Statement
Tunis, 27 November 2025
The Defence Committee for Mr. Ferjani wishes to inform the public that he appeared remotely today before the Criminal Chamber of the Tunis Court of Appeal in what has been described in the media as the “Conspiracy Case 1.”
During the hearing, Mr. Ferjani informed the court that he is undertaking a nil-by-mouth hunger strike in protest against being denied an in-person trial with the basic guarantees of a fair hearing. The court observed his deteriorating health condition, which has reached the point where he is unable to stand or continue attending the session.
Despite the defence’s firm request for a postponement so that Mr. Ferjani may properly exercise his rights, establish his innocence and be represented in person, the court proceeded to reserve the case for pleadings and judgment without hearing him.
In light of these serious procedural violations, further compounded by the decision to conduct the trial remotely and in accordance with the position of the [Tunisian] National Bar Association, the Defence Committee submitted a request to withdraw its official notices in protest against the absence of the legal safeguards guaranteed by law.

Said Ferjani began a hunger strike on 27 October in protest against the court’s decision to enforce a remote trial, a move that further undermines his right to a fair and transparent legal process. He intends to resume his hunger strike unless the court reverses this decision.

In a case where Ennahdha figures were never even mentioned while advocating for those involved, they somehow still ended up being sentenced. My father has just been given another 13 years in yet another fabricated conspiracy case.
Senior Ennahda party leader and former member of parliament Said Ferjani has been detained since February 27, 2023, as part of the Instalingo case. According to his lawyers and family, Ferjani has no connection to Instalingo.
NEW: The Tunisian government has turned arbitrary detention into a cornerstone of its repressive policy, aimed at depriving people of their civil and political rights.

#Ennahdha condemns the “conspiracy case”, a political trial to persecute and demonize the opposition, and expresses solidarity with Sayyid Ferjani and other political prisoners who have begun a hunger strike ahead of the hearing

Today’s so-called “conspiracy” hearing resumes. My father, Said Ferjani and the other detainees have chosen to go on hunger strike and boycott the proceedings, which have been made both remote and closed to the public. Families are gathered outside the court in protest. #Tunisia
Translation:
“My political prisoner client, Said Ferjani, has informed me of his intention to begin a hunger strike starting with food on Thursday, 10 April, 2025, followed by a full hunger strike including food, water and medicine on Friday,11 April, 2025, coinciding with the session regarding the conspiracy against state security. This is in protest against the biased and non-neutral judicial treatment concerning the charges against him in this case.
He has only been heard for a quarter of an hour before the investigating judge and was not confronted with any of the many charges he is being tried for and was left in a state of release.
He is also expressing his fundamental rejection of conducting the trial remotely without his public and direct presence before the judiciary to defend himself.
He insists that this trial is purely political, orchestrated by the executive authority and managed by its security apparatuses, with judges who are not independent and receive instructions directly from the Minister of Justice.
The aim of the trial is to target political opponents of President Kais Saied, to divert public attention from the real coup that occurred on July 25, 2021 and to distract from the deep problems and real dangers threatening the Tunisian state and society.
He holds political and legal responsibility for anyone who intentionally seized the real will of the Tunisian people.
He expresses solidarity with other political prisoners, prisoners of conscience and all those unjustly detained.
He also draws attention to human rights organisations regarding the worsening of his health condition and the onset of new illnesses since his imprisonment over two years ago. He reaffirms his firm determination to continue his peaceful sacrifice and struggle for a free, pluralistic, and democratic Tunisia."
My father, Said Ferjani, has begun his hunger strike to protest biased judicial treatment in his trial, which he deems politically motivated. He opposes remote trials, claims judicial bias and expresses solidarity with fellow prisoners in the "conspiracy" case.
