NEW: Is T-Mobile the next company to bail on Washington?

On March 2, 2026, T-Mobile CEO Srini Gopalan wrote directly to State House Finance Chair Rep. April Berg requesting an amendment to SB 6346 (the Income Tax bill), asking lawmakers to repeal the Advertising Services provision of the Sales Tax on Services because it disproportionately affected Washington-based employers.

He said, T-Mobile's "strong preference is for a full repeal of the Advertising Services provision." If that was not possible, the company wanted "at minimum" repeal of the portion taxing creative advertising services.

T-Mobile argued the tax created a competitive disadvantage because companies headquartered in Washington would pay taxes on creative advertising services while competitors headquartered elsewhere would not.

He said "Advertising... is not a luxury expense," adding that the tax "results in an unintended competitive disadvantage for companies that choose to headquarter and employ workers in our state."

"Local coffee shops, family-owned restaurants, retail stores, service providers and nonprofits all rely on advertising."

The Democratic-controlled Legislature did not repeal the advertising tax as T-Mobile requested.

In return I received death threats, false smears on my name and now have to travel with security to do my job and have to spend tens of thousands of dollars each month just to stay safe.

It has now backfired and literally BILLIONS of eyes have been opened to their crimes and lies against the American people.
