3/ PolyDye is an open-source project that lets you print in full color using cheap parts and your regular FDM printer.
It works by combining melted plastic with inkjet coloring—layer by layer.
Basically: FDM + CMYK = 🌈

We've seen this cycle before. Every time a system tries to hoard knowledge, decentralization finds a way to break it open. The printing press shattered the control of religious elites over books. Open-source maps rugged imperial gatekeeping on exploration. The internet obliterated centralized media's grip on information.
Now, DeSci is doing the same to science.
The old system forces researchers into PVP grant battles, locks discoveries behind paywalls, and buries life-changing breakthroughs under patents that serve profits over progress. But this time it's scientists, engineers, and builders who refuse to let knowledge stay locked in TradSci's vaults.

Before Gutenberg, books were a very illiquid product, written by hand, costly and jealously controlled by religious elites. The Church controlled what could be copied and who could read it. And then the printing press dropped like an open-source protocol. Knowledge suddenly multiplied overnight. Ideas exploded in science. The Reformation took place.

Science is still concentrated AF today. Science is behind paywalls. Advances are hidden behind patents. Scientists spend years authoring grants, VCs invest in only what is lucrative, not what is required.
From PVP to PVE: Science as Collaboration, Not Warfare.
Scientists today are stuck in a PVP deathmatch for money, pitted against each other with limited grants and vying to out-politic each other instead of innovations. DeSci enables a PVE approach, where discovery after discovery piles up and data is open, permissionless and transparent.

Science is decentralizing faster than ever, but history shows this is nothing new.
The printing press transformed the world by unleashing scientific knowledge at scale.
Before it existed, books were copied by hand, making them expensive and rare.
Only the wealthy, religious leaders, and a few scholars had access to knowledge.
Scientific ideas spread slowly, often staying within small groups or institutions.
When Johannes Gutenberg introduced the printing press around 1440, everything changed.
Books could now be printed quickly and cheaply.
This made knowledge available to more people, including merchants, artisans, and the growing middle class.
Scientific discoveries could now reach a much wider audience.
The printing press also helped make information more reliable.
Before printing, handwritten copies often contained errors, making it hard for scientists to work with accurate information.
Printed books created a standard version of knowledge that could be shared across different regions.
This led to the first scientific journals, like Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society in 1665, which allowed scientists to publish and review each other’s work.
