I held a fruitful bilateral meeting with President @GeneralNeva of Burundi today. During our engagement, we oversaw the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) aimed at strengthening our cooperation across various sectors. I have also taken a moment to congratulate him once again on his chairmanship of the African Union along with discussions on vast continental issues. These discussions and the resulting agreements are a pivotal testament to our shared commitment, serving as the essential foundation for transforming our long-standing ties into tangible cooperation that ensures a prosperous and united future for both countries.

Somaliland: President Abdirahman Irro Lays Foundation for Taiwan Medical Center
PRESS STATEMENT
Hargeisa, 26 October 2025
The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), today officially laid the foundation stone for the new Taiwan Medical Center and inaugurated the modernization project of Hargeisa Group Hospital — a landmark initiative symbolizing the strong and enduring partnership between Somaliland and Taiwan.
The project, generously funded by the Government of Taiwan, marks a transformative milestone in Somaliland’s healthcare development. Once completed, the new Taiwan Medical Center and the upgraded Hargeisa Group Hospital will serve as centers of medical excellence, offering advanced, high-quality healthcare services that will significantly reduce the need for treatment abroad while strengthening the national healthcare system.
In his address, President Abdirahman Irro expressed deep gratitude to the Government and people of Taiwan for their unwavering friendship and continued support for Somaliland’s progress. He described Taiwan as a trusted and dependable partner, whose sustained investment in healthcare, education, and technology continues to deliver tangible benefits for the people of Somaliland. The President emphasized that the project stands as a visible testament to the shared values, mutual respect, and strategic cooperation that unite the two nations.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Health Development, including the Minister, Deputy Minister, and Director General, commended the initiative as a transformative leap forward for the national health sector, praising Taiwan’s commitment to improving the wellbeing of Somaliland’s citizens. They noted that the project will expand access to quality care, modernize facilities, and enhance the overall efficiency of healthcare delivery.
In his remarks, Mr. Allen Lou, Taiwan’s Representative to Somaliland, reaffirmed his government’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and supporting Somaliland in key areas including healthcare, education, innovation, and security capacity-building.
The ceremony concluded in a spirit of unity, partnership, and mutual respect—reaffirming the enduring bonds between the Republic of Somaliland and the Republic of China (Taiwan). The two democratic nations remain united by shared values, common aspirations, and an unwavering commitment to deepening cooperation and advancing sustainable development, prosperity, and progress for their peoples.
