Its literally a gamble and both sides could lose or gain a lot of money. The $500 is basically a transaction fee to set up the contract.

A put is you betting the price goes down a certain amount before a set execution date (the latter being very important). If it goes down lets say to 10k, you get a truck for cheap, and the dealer loses a LOT of money.

@FedKilledMcAfee @Isari301 None of those are strawmen arguments. Politicians routinely run on those platforms of antiabortion, remove public services, and cutting public aid only for those exact same people voting for them to heavily rely on their existence. Look at plenty of poor areas in the US.

Plenty of examples both here and on the internet at large.
