This one takes the cake because most others are deliberately provocative.
He genuinely didn’t realise the issue with this tweet until after he posted it
Friendly reminder to use Glaze and Nightshade on your art/designs before posting them online. 💖
Glaze protects against AI agents stealing your specific style by cloaking your image, while Nightshade poisons and distorts the image so AI agents can’t recognize what it is.
And yes, if you’re a VTuber posting commissioned art and you’re against AI, you NEED to do this too to protect your likeness from being stolen. This way you can prevent malicious AI generated fanart or people stealing your designs. You have tools to fight back, use them! 💖
Were closing in on 8 years for the Epic Games Store and yet still no forum, user profiles, universal controller support or Workshop style mod system.
Tim Sweeney should seriously focus on his own product and less on Gabe Newell and his product.
When a car goes 25 mph nobody cares. That’s what it was designed to do.
When a human being runs 25 mph, it’s an accomplishment because a HUMAN BEING achieved it.
Nobody gives a shit if a machine spits out the code, art, and animations and creates a game. The reason games are successful comes from people experiencing the developer’s own vision. It’s not just about the product and the profit, it’s about seeing people’s ideas come to life through their own work.
Here’s a hard-to-swallow pill for people who support AI: Having dreams and ideas is not actually impressive, everybody has them. It’s putting in the effort yourself to make them happen that makes it impressive, and if you think people will still appreciate that when you used an AI to do the hard work for you then you clearly don’t know what it means to truly create.
It's really quite simple. He wants what Gabe/Valve has, but this arrogant, pretentious prick has no interest in providing players a service to match what Steam already does. Tim has a massive inferiority complex, ask me how I know. https://t.co/ruKdTySw4m
Bruh the only game I used EGS for is Rocket League, because you can't get it through Steam anymore and I've already invested a lot of time into it, but short of that, I don't fuck with Epic. They could release a big game I want free on EGS and I'd still rather just purchase it on Steam.
I don't like Epic and I REALLY don't like Tim Sweeney, so I've got two big reasons not to support EGS.
@muselk i do think tim sweeney does deserve atleast some of the hate for just being a dickhead in general tho and i wont say all AI is evil but what is ai mostly used for? not much of it used for anything good imo and it doesnt seem to be going in a different direction anyways
The worst read in the gaming industry RN is the hate on @TimSweeneyEpic .
He fought platforms like Apple charging 30% fees which cost gamers and devs. This includes steam who BANS Developers if they offer their games cheaper on other stores who take less cut.
He buys forests just to turn them into nature reserves.
Epic store is not NEARLY as good as steam yet. But they take WAY less money from developers and literally hand out free AAA games each months. Does it need time to expand features? Yes. Are any of those factors something that is motivated by 'evil' no.
And MOST of all. He's 100% correct that its not 2016. Like it or not AI is existing. And the reason you only see the 'anti AI' comments are because the 95% of developers who ARE using it RIGHT NOW are just scared of the backlash.
This doesnt mean they're just vibe code 1-shotting games. They're utelising it to create workflows that streamline otherwise time consuming (and ultimately not 'player experience' defining factors). Stupid 1-shot assets/entire code bases are not what AI is actually being used for. But there are thousands of talented developers using it in a very thoughtful, structured way which gives them full creative control.
We all are 'scared' by AI - and what it means for jobs, creativity, and creation as a whole. But it DOES NOT change the fact that Tim sweeney isnt wrong.
He's just the person with the balls to actually say what is true.
@muselk he argues against steam gatekeeping games on their platforms and yet has used exclusivity as a way to steer ppl to epic, i mean how often do you use the epic game store other than like fornite and the free games every couple of days? epics layoffs do not make him look any better
