The Trade Union Act 2016 was built to weaken unions and hold workers back — especially young workers trying to fight low pay, insecure contracts, and exploitation.
It wasn’t “reform”.
It was union-busting.
Good riddance. 🗑️🔥
This #InternationalYouthDay, we celebrate the power of young workers 🌍
GMB Midlands Young Workers are fighting for:
⚡ Fair pay ⚡ Safe workplaces ⚡ Secure contracts ⚡ A real voice at work
We're not just the future, we're the now.
Join us. ✊

🚀 Quick update:
Since the REF co-opted Jake & Abi alongside Ash, lots has been happening behind the scenes - we’ll soon meet with Sarah James & Martin Allen to push things forward.
Talk isn’t enough, we’re committed to action. Young members, we’ll be in touch! 🤩
🗳️ VOTES @ 1️⃣6️⃣
We’ve backed this for years across GMB and the trade union movement.
By the next General Election, 16 and 17-year-olds will get the vote.
Labour’s promised it – and they’ll deliver. 🌹

Congratulations to Abi Young and Jake Heeley on their appointments as Regional Young Worker Leads, alongside our existing lead, @AshGreenGMB.

Well done! 🎉
(🧵1/2): congratulations to one of our own, Abbie for winning the GMB Health and Safety Rep of the Year award.
Abbie, you have every reason to be proud of your accomplishments, and I believe I speak for the entire network when I say we are all proud of you.
(🧵2/2): Ash Green - our Regional Lead said:
“It’s moments like these that make me proud to serve as your regional lead and remind me of the purpose behind our work.
Congratulations again, Abbie - you should be so proud”

Solidarity! 🧡
Great to be out with @YoungLabourUK in Runcorn today.
Our generation can’t afford Reform: they would undermine the NHS, oppose workers’ rights and roll back action on climate change.
Only Labour can deliver a better and brighter future for young people 🌹
We stand in solidarity with our steelworkers. 🥽
It's great to see that this Labour Government has stepped in to save British steel 🌹- something we know the GMB has been campaigning for now for some time.
#MakeWorkBetter. 🧡✊🏽
BREAKING 🚨 | 18-24 year olds are more than twice as likely to be on exploitative zero-hours contracts, than other workers.
Meaning they’re more at risk from unfair dismissal, missing sick pay, lack of control and low pay.
The government’s Make Work Pay agenda will put more money in young people's pockets.
And the Employment Rights Bill will ban exploitative contracts & boost protections.
Everyone deserves to start their working lives on a strong footing.
A great discussion was had by all, particularly focusing on how we can improve Young Workers Engagement in the Midlands. 👀

Tonight young workers gathered from across the East Midlands for a TUC young workers event.
Young people keep organising and we won’t stop until we get the pay and rights we deserve.
I’m proud @GMBMidlands helped support this event alongside other incredible trade unionists ✊
