Three-toed Woodpecker, Bihor Mountains, Romania.
When my friends wife pointed at a Tree about 30 yards away from where we were standing little did we expect that we would soon be observing a 3TW at such close range.
Easington Moths...a light SE wind produced migrants, the best of which was a fabulous Great Brocade, nfg and an absolutely pristine Bordered Straw. Large Thorns are appearing and the Ni lure attracted a Dewick's Plusia a few day's ago, also nfg.😁
Migrant moths dribbling on near Creech St Michael but the highlight were two of these wee tortrixes, which I think look good candidates for the rare Gynnidomorpha alismana (grade 4…). @GMotcombe@MothsSomerset@ClevedonMoths Off to search the River Tone for water-plantain…
Still enjoying the casually good #migrantmothing in Somerset: today’s catch (from
an impressive 350 moths in two actinics) was Vestal, Small Mottled Willow, Dark Sword-grass and 12 Rush Veneer. That would be by far my best-ever migrant haul in Norwich!
Mothing near Creech St Michael, Somerset, this week: nice migrant haul w/ Small Marbled, 2 Small Mottled Willow, Dark SG, 3 Rush Veneer, RDP. assume the 14 Euro Cornborers (inc mating pair) are resident. #teammoth#migrantmoth@MigrantMothUK @SomersetMoths
Finally joined the local promissa-club .....Light Crimson Underwing from New Romney traps last night; incredibly the 17th immigrant example of the species recorded in the Dungeness area this summer!
A another new species for me, and another reed-loving moth in among the 171 macro moths of 50 species that I caught in the garden last night. A pristine Twin-spotted Wainscot
Weirdest post I’ve ever made! Since the 1990’s Schiphol airport Amsterdam has had targets on the men’s urinals. They used to have a drawing of a fly, the new urinals have a golf hole. Behavioural scientists have shown these targets help men aim more accurately!
In olden days, a glimpse of hindwing was looked on as something shocking, now heaven knows, anything goes... 21 years after Minsmere Crimson Underwing & 11 years after Oak Yellow Underwing, Catocala nymphaea became my 8th British Catocala courtesy of Dave Foot at Wyke Regis. 😀
This is KITTLITZ’S MURRELET! one of my main targets on our boat trip out of Seward Alaska. It likes to feed near the glacial melt waters close to the ice. We had some great views along with Rhinoceros Auklets and Ancient Murrelets! with @a1virginia
