14 Health Care Professionals Serving in Congress to Protect Patients’ Access to Care

[GOP Doctors Caucus @GOPDoctors]

We applaud the coordination across departments to bring real transparency to the healthcare marketplace. Under this new rule, American patients will have a clear understanding of their coverage and expected costs all before receiving care. The burden shouldn’t fall on patients. This effort will help to simplify a complex system, giving patients the clarity they need to make more informed decisions.

American leadership in medical innovation starts with a strong NIH. From cancer breakthroughs to Alzheimer’s research, sustained interest in innovation saves lives and keeps the U.S. at the forefront of discovery. That’s why the GOP Doctors Caucus was honored to meet with @NIHDirector_Jay this week to learn more about the incredible scientific advances that are made possible through robust NIH leadership and funding.

We applaud the Fifth Circuit for protecting healthcare providers. Insurers must be prevented from submitting so-called “ghost rates” into their QPA calculations. Including rates for services that a provider does not perform while excluding bonus and incentive payments shift dramatically away from congressional intent.

Today, the GOP Doctors Caucus announces its endorsement of H.R. 4710, the No Surprises Enforcement Act. This bipartisan, bicameral legislation strengthens enforcement of the No Surprises Act and ensures this patient protection law works as Congress intended:

For two decades, Medicare has paid physicians less while care costs more. The result: practices closing and seniors without care. The @GOPDoctors Caucus is proud to support the Patients First Act, a lasting fix, not another patch.

Great conversation with Tom Keane, MD, National Coordinator for Health IT. Patients deserve health records that are easily accessible, comprehensive, and easy to understand. We look forward to our continued collaboration with @ONC_HealthIT as we work together to address these important issues.

Chefs can own restaurants. Lawyers can own law firms. But for 16 years, federal law has stood in the way of doctors opening or expanding hospitals.

It’s time to lift the ACA’s restrictions on physician-owned hospitals and let them compete on the same footing as traditional hospitals.

Today, the GOP Doctors Caucus met with Jim Bobeck and Larry Steenvoorden of Federal Hearings and Appeals Services to discuss implementation of the No Surprises Act.

The No Surprises Act was a landmark step toward protecting patients from unexpected medical bills, but its implementation has been far from perfect. We appreciated the insights from Jim Bobeck and Larry Steenvoorden of Federal Hearings and Appeals Services on how the federal dispute resolution process is functioning and where improvements are needed.

Patients deserve policies that adequately protect them but we also must make sure that those who deliver patient services are paid. As physician-legislators, we are working to mend this broken process, stop all those who misuse the program, and put patients and doctors first.

This morning, the GOP Doctors Caucus met with John Knox, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (PDAS) at HHS’s ASPR.

During our meeting, we discussed priorities to modernize response systems, including reinforcing domestic medical supply chains and taking a more proactive, science-driven approach to studying viral families to improve readiness and treatment strategies.

We also addressed continued strain on the healthcare system—driven by capacity constraints, workforce burnout, and staffing shortages. The conversation underscored the need for modernization, workforce sustainability, and innovation to better prepare our health system for future challenges. We thank John for the critical work he is doing to strengthen national health preparedness!

[Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. @RepGregMurphy]

Patients should be rewarded for finding more affordable ways to get their medications.

I’ve introduced the Every Dollar Counts Act to require that expenditures for prescription drugs purchased through direct-to-patient platforms count toward patients’ deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums, regardless of where they purchase them

The GOP Doctors’ Caucus had the honor of meeting with Kathryn Bryant Knudson, Founder and President of the @speakfoundation, to discuss the urgent need to accelerate cures for rare diseases. The Speak Foundation, a patient-led organization, is at the forefront of advocating for those affected by muscular dystrophy.

“When it comes to rare diseases, patients and their families cannot afford to wait. We must continue advancing innovative research and ensuring clear pathways to bring safe and effective treatments to those in need. Together, the GOP Doctors' Caucus is committed to working in Washington to deliver real solutions for Americans facing these devastating conditions. We thank Kathryn for her strong patient-led advocacy as she fights for cures to rare and ultra-rare diseases,” said Co-Chairmen John Joyce, M.D. and Greg Murphy, M.D.

Members of the GOP Doctors Caucus met with @SecKennedy this week to discuss the challenges threatening American healthcare.

We pressed on prior authorization reform, which forces physicians to spend more time fighting insurance companies than caring for patients. We discussed the importance of increasing focus on patients and providers in rural and underserved areas. Finally, we raised serious concerns about insurance company consolidation that is limiting competition, driving up costs, and leaving patients with fewer choices.

We look forward to continuing to work with the Secretary to advance legislation that puts patients back in the center of our healthcare system.

[Bob Onder @RepBobOnder]

In my new op-ed published in The @WashTimes, I explain what greater price transparency in health care would mean for patients, families, and physicians in restoring trust and putting patients back in control.

Proud to work alongside my colleagues in the @GOPDoctors and @HouseGOP to advance patient-centered reforms.

We applaud the new framework announced by the FDA to incentivize customized treatments for patients with rare diseases. Unique therapies give hope to those in need and development of life-changing cures should not be hindered by unnecessary bureaucracy.

Thank you to @WhiteHouse @HHSGov, and @US_FDA for your hard work on this issue.

The GOP Doctors Caucus applauds President Trump for signing the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2026 into law. Among the many critical provisions within the law were several priorities of the Caucus, including significant reforms to PBMs, extension of certain telehealth flexibilities, and reauthorization of the Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Provision.

We look forward to continuing our work with the President on ensuring our healthcare system remains patient forward and doctor-led.

[The White House @WhiteHouse]

A GREAT VICTORY for the American people.

President Donald J. Trump signs the Consolidated Appropriations Act 2026 into law, which reopens the government and fund the vast majority of operations & America First policies. ✅

The GOP Doctors Caucus met with Joel White, President of the Council for Affordable Health Coverage, to discuss the growing crisis of rising health care costs facing Americans.

The Council for Affordable Health Coverage advocates to reduce health care costs by increasing competition, encouraging informed consumers, and expanding choices for patients. It emphasizes greater price transparency and affordability in an increasingly consolidated health care market.

“There was no better time to hear from the Council for Affordable Health Coverage as Congress confronts our broken health care system,” said Co-Chairs Murphy, M.D., and Joyce, M.D. “Joel White and the Council plays a critical role in advocating for American patients at a time of widespread frustration with a monopolized system that is crushing patients. We thank them for their dedication to repairing a severely damaged system by empowering doctors, restoring competitive markets, and standing up for all American patients.”

The GOP Doctors Caucus hosted Director Joni L. Rutter, Ph.D., of the NIH’s National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, to discuss the center’s ongoing work to improve the real-world application of innovative health solutions.

The National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences is spearheading drug repurposing using AI to significantly cut down on delivery times of new treatments, particularly in the rare disease space. By improving treatment options and modalities, the cost of care can be reduced, providing dignity to patients and significantly boosting access to care.

“We applaud and are grateful for the incredible work the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences undertakes to improve American medicine,” said Co-Chairs Murphy, M.D. & Joyce, M.D. “Translational sciences take laboratory, clinical and community successes and turn them into tangible solutions for patients across the country. The integration of artificial intelligence is the preeminent challenge of the next frontier in healthcare. Appropriately augmenting research in patient care with it is as important as the excitement of its seemingly boundless potential.”

Today, the GOP Doctors Caucus met with SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler to discuss the importance of small, independent practices in our healthcare ecosystem.

“From onerous red tape and overregulation to an environment dominated by large insurance companies that disincentivizes independent providers, young physicians are facing enormous challenges as they try to start their own practice,” said Co-Chairs Murphy, M.D. & Joyce, M.D. “Greater competition and opportunity for physicians entering the workforce will drive down costs, improve access to high-quality care for patients, and preserve independent medicine as a viable alternative option to consolidated care. We look forward to continuing this important conversation.”
