to all incoming cbc freshman: enjoy every second of it! you have no idea how quickly these next 4 years are going to go, it seems like my freshman orientation was last week and now i’m a senior. get good grades, have fun, and most of all make it count💯
there are vanishingly few principles that Donald Trump holds to, but by far the most important one is a universal admiration and fellowship with sex criminals
This pic isn't a warning to us. It's a warning to other countries. We will take your smartest, hardest-working citizens and turn them into Americans. We're a machine and you can't stop us. Look upon our soft power and despair.
OpenAI and Anthropic’s models are so magical and mystical and dangerous, they can do anything! They may even destroy the world! The only thing they can’t do, funny enough, is generate positive cash flow. And that’s where the US Taxpayer comes in!
I think the "trans athlete debate" might be the current culture war that is most emblematic of the primary divide in this country right now. The reality vs the completely fabricated.
On one side, you have something that literally just isn't happening: Trans women infiltrating women's sports en masse. It isn't happening.
On the other side, you have troglodytic conservatives pretending publicly to care about women and children when they have spent every bit of political cache they have doing the exact opposite. Abolishing women's reproductive rights, stripping away food assistance programs that overwhelmingly support children.
Their problem, however, is massively twofold (at minimum):
1. Only the biggest losers on the planet really are willing to go in public and argue about this. Of ALL THE NBA PLAYERS IN HISTORY you have Enes Kanter (sucked, career grifter) and Royce White (scared of planes, can't win an election, career grifter) stumping for your cause. They are loud and FOX News, Outkick, et al. will platform them, but no one actually likes them. Royce White couldn't even win a primary this year. Not exactly inspiring figures with legitimate rallying cries.
2. Republican men only have so much time and energy to pretend they care about women's sports. This group deviates from the strange, obsessed anti-pedophile crowd who can spend all hours of the day and night pretending their core value set is to protect children, but worship our dual threat pedophile and pedophile protector president. Those guys have some real energy, but you're just not going to get these morons to pretend they're watching women's sports. Their argument on the youth level leans on this family man protecting the young persona, but that putters out when these loser weirdo's daughters progress into adolescence and their focus becomes no longer about "protecting" these young girls, but turning the young women they've become into the suppressed, meek wives they want them to now be.
Giant losers, all of them.
Haitians and Scots tailgating in Boston and Mamdanistan sealing it in 5. I feel like I've pierced the veil and am seeing the world I want to live in through the sheer power of sport
One of the worst things Donald Trump ingrained into American politics is the idea that if your base likes you enough, you never have to back down or apologize for anything.
Does it matter whether Abdul ever got his medical license, or treated patients, or had a residency? In the context of a Senate run, not especially, if we're being real.
But it seems indisputable that he was deliberately deceptive about using titles like 'physician', playing up his doctor credentials, talking about how he 'healed people', etc. And even if you want to say that's a gray area rather than a straight up lie, people used to be embarrassed by that kind of deception. It used to be normal for politicians to apologize for things, scandals used to matter.
Trump has taught everyone that you never need to apologize, ever. Double down. Triple down. Caught lying, or doing something immoral or shady? Mock the people criticizing you. Rally the base around you, attack rather than defend. You're actually PROUD of whatever they're mad at. Trump proved that as long as your base is rabid enough, this tactic works. And I hate to use overly dramatic cliches, but this kind of thing is poisonous to the soul of the country.
Boston, and in particular Fenway Park, is a wild choice for RETVRN guys to use as an example of something long gone.
Fenway park still looks like this, they’ve preserved it pretty well. The white guys just wear vests now.
Do troglodyte right wingers just hate Wu because she’s “woke” or is their like a policy they disagree with or something. Massachusetts is expensive probably because it’s far and away the best state in America. Sorry
You start to see AI predicted everywhere. Reading Infinite Jest recently, and now in this jaw-dropping, narrative-less chapter which comes out of nowhere hundreds of pages into Vasily Grossman's Life and Fate. Gut punch
The best version of the Democratic Party is a party that taxes the public to fund an efficient, simple, robust safety net, and that can build public infrastructure fast.
The worst version of the Democratic Party is economic slop about 'nobody should pay taxes but millionaires', and also grinds economic activity to a halt with a million regulations on everything.
The first actually believes in the power of the state to do good. It thinks the system is worth funding and defending. It believes in the fairness of a safety net but also in the power of economic growth and dynamism.
The second is cynical crap that just wants to identify heroes and villains and hysterically strike out at whoever is 'bad'. Rich people bad, only they should pay taxes. Big Companies bad, they shouldn't be allowed to do anything. It has no actual vision of the good.
