Excited to share my thoughts on organising an OSM Active Travel Mapathon! I'm repeating myself here but it was super fun and I'm so pleased to see people engaging with OSM mapping on Twitter and beyond. Community mapping is spreading one person at a time.π

Greta tells us about organising a @osmuk Active Travel #Mapathon with @robinlovelace@hulsiejames@gregorymarler and the collective expertise that joined them on the day.
Read about their conversations and what's coming next https://t.co/afImt2xBDY
Check out this introductory talk on OSM, which also was delivered to the OSM Active Travel Mapathon participants organised at @LIDA_UK π Thank you for your work on and for the OSM community, Gregory!
Recently I spoke @LIDA_UK with an introduction/background on OpenStreetMap. Here is a recreation: https://t.co/yAR8miI4rx
More about the rest of the day will be coming soon.
@CarlinoDustin@Microlambert@hulsiejames@robinlovelace@gregorymarler Actually we had a great discussion about junctions and I had to admit that I have no idea what would be the best, if any, practice to map it. See the photo of a junction in Will's original tweet; this is its representation in OSM: https://t.co/SblwsK240x
@CarlinoDustin@Microlambert@hulsiejames@robinlovelace@gregorymarler building on this, here's Google Maps too: https://t.co/UJv5p9gDgq
So I was wondering if the current OSM representation does not ignore the two islands when crossing the street? I'm not sure how it would be from routing perspective. Does it look accurate?
@CarlinoDustin@robinlovelace@Microlambert@hulsiejames@gregorymarler My bad that I didn't add any myself as I was helping others to do it instead. It was super satisfying to hear someone say "I added a surface value!", so I consider it a win π Though maybe we should have (still can?) collected usernames for validation...
It was such a fun thing to co-organise and co-run with @robinlovelace, @gregorymarler, and @hulsiejames
Teaching others is truly the best way to learn, so thank you to all the awesome participants too :)
Looking forward to Mapathon on active travel infrastructure in @LIDA_UK led by @osmuk founder @gregorymarler. First fieldwork session in a long time and sun is shining π
I cannot recommend this Programme enough. The reason behind my increased confidence is that I worked with (and was supported by!) some of the most inspiring people/professionals out there. Experience to treasure for lifeπ

We didn't win an award, but it was an awesome way to close my year at LIDA. Super proud of how far the project has gone and grateful to everyone involved ππ» This motivates to keep working and I'm sure more great things are coming!
Official road traffic estimates published today by @transportgovuk show that cycling is the mode with the largest percentage increase since 2019 #ActiveTravel https://t.co/BEwDIx4oCc
It was such a privilege to be part of this and I thoroughly enjoyed my time here -- I grew as a professional and a person. I will be following everyone's journeys (you're all amazing, FYI) while PhDing.π
A round of applause for the 2021-22 cohort for completing our Data Scientist Development Programme π
Thank you all for your hard work this past yearπand best of luck, we can't wait to see what you do next π
A recap of how it started β¬οΈ
https://t.co/4WSwfjcEwE
Around 2015, I started researching the history of sidewalks. What I discovered, however, is that the history of sidewalks is not in itself that interesting. Or maybe sidewalks are interesting in the sense that they are very important, NOW. (1)
