@DrPorcher As a future teacher, I am responsible for passing on my knowledge about anti-Black violence to my students and to make sure they are in a safe environment #teacheredumatters#ELE301#TCNJEduLions
@eepainton @DrPorcher I also learned a lot from the Black Enligh group's presentation in class today. I definitley agree that society isn't aware enough of the difference between gen z terms and AAVE terms #teacheredumatters
@DrPorcher Anti-blackness has been woven into my understanding of the course b/c before this class I always thought there was only one form of correct english, which was standard english. I now know that there are many different forms of english, including black english #teacheredumatters
@DrPorcher @dr_s_bertrand Hi! I'm Gigi Sakellariou and I'm a sophomore Early Childhood Education major at the University of Delaware #teacheredumatters
in our definition of grammar I would change how it says "it is a must to communicate effectively" because I have talked to many people who don't have perfect grammar and I was still able to understand and communicate with them just fine. #teacheredumatters
@SydneyKrupnick I totally agree! It would get rid of the divide due to differing language abilities and make everyone feel more included #teacheredumatters
@DrPorcher In a world where we are all linguistically free everyone is free to speak as they would like. There would be a greater sense of inclusion and less of a divide due to language. #teacheredumatters
@DrPorcher It is important to be aware of what you are saying, and to make sure it does not offend others. It's also important for diverse english to be taught in schools because it's important to know that there is more then just what we refer to as mainstream english. #teacheredumatters
@CameronVeazey02 @DrPorcher My "mother tongue" is also formal standard english, and my mom was also a teacher! Although she does relax more when shes home she still tends to correct me or my sisters if we say soemthing incorrectly. #teacheredumatters
@DrPorcher My "mothers tongue" is formal standard english. She used to be a teacher and still substitute teaches, so she tends to correct me when I say things wrong. Of course, there are lots of times at home or in social settings where she speaks more casual and informal #teacheredumatters
My understandings of formal vs informal language has changed because I now realize there is no right or wrong definition. There are many factors that influence our understadnings, such as schoool, parents, media, etc. #teacheredumatters
@mollydresser30 I totally agree, I think it depends on the situation you are in. Like whether you are just talking to a friend, or if you are doing a formal presentation.
Informal language is more casual, like when you are talking to a friend, while formal language is used when writing professional papers or school assignments #teacheredumatters
