Happy Teacher Appreciation week to all the great educators who have shaped me!! @mrs_w_teaches, @dr_s_bertrand, @miss_rosofsky, all of #ELE301 and many more I don’t want to pester for Twitter handles!
@DrPorcher I feel like as a future educator and being White, I need to feel responsible to help change and disrupt the norms. I feel like I need to continue conversing, learning, and teaching my future students not only history but what’s right. #teacheredumatters #ELE301 #TCNJEduLions
@DrPorcher As a future teacher, it will be my responsibility to make all my students feel comfortable in my classroom, no matter what language they speak. I want my students to be able to speak freely and not worry about being judged. #teacheredumatters #ELE301 #TCNJEduLions
@DrPorcher I think it’s important for teachers to say something when someone does/says something wrong. Stopping students or fellow teachers in the act of anti-Black violence rather than sitting and watching will show the support our students need. #TCNJEduLions #teacheredumatters #ELE301
@BaltzisMs @DrPorcher Hi! Anti-Blackness is everywhere. “Standard” English is still used as the “gold standard” and (it’s been time), but it’s definitely time to sway away from this idea. #teacheredumatters #ELE301 #TCNJEduLions
@DrPorcher As a future teacher, it is my responsibility to continue unlearning racist biases implemented by my upbringing. This includes my views on different versions of English, implicit biases I may not realize I have, etc. #ELE301 #TCNJedulions #teacheredumatters
@DrPorcher A2: My responsibility as an educator is to first and foremost address my own subconscious biases to ensure that my classroom is a safer space in which students feel comfortable expressing any experiences with anti-black violence. #teacheredumatters #ELE301 #TCNJEduLions
@msgordons_class @DrPorcher @aprilbakerbell Exactly Abby! These are just the anti-Blackness practices that have been woven into education unfortunately. #Ele301 #teacheredumatters
@DrPorcher A2: As a future educator, I am responsible. First step is reflecting and taking action. Teachers shape the future as students look up to and model after them. What better person to teach children about disrupting norms than their teachers? #TeacherEduMatters #ELE301 #TCNJEduLions
@BaltzisMs @DrPorcher Hi Ms. Baltzis! I agree that silence can feel violent many times. It is important that we make sure to use our voices & not just sit by & watch things that could have been prevented happen. #teacheredumatters #ELE301 #TCNJEduLions
@DrPorcher & see them without the judgment that anti-Black violence has created. #ELE301 #TCNJedulions #teacheredumatters
@DrPorcher I believe the most simple & effective responsibility is to speak up and say something when we see something wrong. Its a luxury we are granted in this country to be able to say what we want & its time we start using it in the right ways. #teacheredumatters #ELE301 #TCNJEduLions
@DrPorcher By banning the use of Black language to such extremes, educators are directly placing their students at a disadvantage by thwarting any opportunity to exhibit intelligence as well as discouraging positive student initiated interactions. #ELE301 #teacheredumatters #TCNJEDUlions
@DrPorcher It is our responsibility to disrupt the norms because "silence can feel like violence." Allowing our students to come to our classroom while understanding their intersectional experiences acknowledges the differences we have. #ELE301 #TCNJedulions #teacheredumatters
@DrPorcher Anti-Blackness is woven into my own understanding through how schools are structured and focused on mainstream English. Teachers are focused on teaching “proper” grammar, not allowing students to use their home language in the classroom. #ELE301 #TCNJEduLions #teacheredumatters
@DrPorcher I feel like anti-Blackness woven into our own understanding stems from being unaware. Unaware of language, discrimination, policies, issues. Unaware of everything. To become more aware, we just need to keep learning and talking! #teacheredumatters #ELE301 #TCNJEduLions
@DrPorcher A1: Throughout the course, we have learned about Black Language, ASL, history, and culture through the help of @aprilbakerbell workshops. I learned many new things and continue to strengthen my understanding everyday. #TeacherEduMatters #ELE301 #TCNJEduLions
@DrPorcher A1: Anti-Blackness is woven into my teaching of course content with the limitation of resources that allow my students to feel a sense of representation and belonging. #teacheredumatters #ELE301 #TCNJEduLions
@DrPorcher Anti-blackness is woven into the idea that there is a “proper” way to speak within classroom spaces and that any way of speaking that does not align with this needs to conform to this “correct” way in order to be fixed. #teacheredumatters #ELE301 #TCNJEduLions
@DrPorcher Anti-Blackness is woven in schools as well as in society. The way our institutions and schools are structured shows Anti-Blackness by forcing students to use "standard English" instead of being able to speak their language. #ELE301 #TCNJedulions #teacheredumatters
