@pramirez2023 @DrPorcher Paola, I couldn't agree more. As future teachers, we need to speak up for our students! Many students need an authority figure to look up to and we can be that for them. Teachers are superheroes!!
@Miss_Benson11 @DrPorcher Wow Ashley, I love this! It starts with us as future teachers, we can leave a lasting impact on our students and change the future of education! Very well said.
@DrPorcher As a white future teacher, I have the responsibility to stand up for my students of color and change the future of education. We can understand and respect our differences while celebrating where each student comes from. #teacheredumatters#ELE301#TCNJEduLions
@_missryder @DrPorcher @aprilbakerbell I agree with you Kelly, I learned so much last week! Black students are told they must act more white to seem more professional which is harmful to their self-identities! It's interesting to think, why isn't it the other way around?
@miss_kudisch @DrPorcher Yes! We have heard many times before that black Americans need to "speak white" to sound professional and secure jobs which is unfair they have to hide their identities to "be accepted" to American culture.
@DrPorcher The stereotypes of black students make for assumptions to be made about them before they even open their mouths. Once they do speak, they often are criticized for the way they speak being told it isn't "white enough." #teacheredumatters#ELE301#TCNJEduLions
@DrPorcher @dr_s_bertrand Good Morning! My name is Abby Gordon, I'm a Junior Elementary Education and Psychology major at The College of New Jersey! Excited for this chat today #teacheredumatters#ELE301#TCNJEduLions
Every school day, 46 kids are diagnosed with cancer and Iβve committed to joining The Andrew McDonough B+ (Be Positive) Foundation in the fight against childhood cancer. I will be participating as a member of ZTA at TCNJ in TCNJam. Please consider donating for an amazing cause!
@msjade1010 @dr_s_bertrand I love this Jade! It is important to make connections with ALL students and I want to do the work too. 1 action of kindness can go such a long way for a struggling student and to know where each student is at, can be helpful in finding ways to assist them. #ELE301#TCNJEduLions
@miss_kudisch @dr_s_bertrand Go Bethany!!! I strive for these same ideals and know that we have the power to do so! It's amazing to think how much of an impact we have on so many lives based on our career and we will do our best to positively change our students lives. #ELE301#TCNJEduLions
@Miss_Benson11 @dr_s_bertrand I love how passionate you are about this topic and I agree! It might be uncomfortable but we must push past that feeling to truly learn more about each other and our needs in that environment #ELE301#TCNJEduLions
@dr_s_bertrand I am committed to making my classroom a space where all students feel welcomed no matter what their background is. I want to educate myself now and when I have a future teaching position. Being self-aware is important and I will strive to grow from mistakes. #ELE301#TCNJEduLions
@msjade1010 @dr_s_bertrand I love how you worded this Jade! If teachers listen to students with different backgrounds, they can learn so much on how to make their experience better in the classroom so they are heard and appreciated #ELE301#TCNJEduLions
@MissDimauloMilk @dr_s_bertrand I really resonate with this response Sarah. Inclusivity must be an everyday thing, there are ways to implement it into the classroom daily and it should be to have a healthy environment for all students. #ELE301#TCNJEduLions
@Miss_Benson11 @dr_s_bertrand I love how you said the world is constantly changing Ashley. This is definitely something to keep in mind as a future teacher and know that there is always more to learn and we can continue educating ourselves post-graduation when we have our own classrooms! #ELE301#TCNJEduLions
@dr_s_bertrand We need to realize that no matter what race we are as teachers, we can effectively teach students of every color. We can find ways to have every student feel welcomed, appreciated and valued in the classroom, despite the stereotypes that may exist #ELE301#TCNJEduLions
@miss_sirianni @dr_s_bertrand Miss Sirianni, I think you put this very well! It is so important to show representation in the classroom. By picking a book that has a variety of different character backgrounds, it can help students feel seen! #ELE301#TCNJEduLions
