Our new manuscript born of work led by lab members @thedrakejensen and Ana Ruiz Manzano is now available @NAR_Open.
It describes a fluorescent-aptamer-based transcription assay for parallel steady state rate measurements:

The @WUSM_BMB holdiay door competition is on! Come check out our pumpkin spider spinning a nucleic acid web made from the bones of its NTP prey. And just a warning the door is now held shut by a couple of base-pairs. You will have to pull harder than usual. ๐
Welcome to Victor Tyne, a physics and classics major @UChicago , who will spend time with us as part of the brand new @WUSM_BMB summer undergraduate research program:

@nieminm@WUSTLnews @GarciaLabMS @WUSTLmed@NIH Technically, the grant is to study both transcription and repair. ๐๐ป Weโre grateful for the opportunity to continue our work! ๐งฌ
@jaigeeth @ProfessorAntony@BiophysicalSoc This was a great session with lots of new findings on helicases, DNA repair, supercoiling, and transcription using a broad range of biophysical techniques! Thanks to all the speakers.
For those who will be in #SanFrancisco for the @BiophysicalSoc meeting, make sure you come hear Ankita's platform talk on Wed, Feb 23rd (2157-Plat).
She will detail how oxidative conditions lead to UvrD1 dimerization and helicase activation via a specific 2B domain cysteine.
@Lohman_Lab already beat me to it, but really elegant work by graduate student Ankita Chadda in the lab reveals a new twist on UvrD-family helicase dimerization. Perhaps most exciting are the implications for DNA repair in M. tuberculosis.

@Lohman_Lab This work is now accepted for publication @PNASnews! A new twist on the dimerization of these ubiquitous DNA repair helicases. A new direction for the lab led by #PhD student Ankita Chadda.
Excited to share work from @GalburtLab and Tim Lohmanโs lab where we illustrate yet another way that DNA-dependent enzymes in Mycobacteria are functionally distinct from those in E. coli. Congrats Ankita! https://t.co/vCzBU9wqC6
