L’exposition « Zurbarán. 1598-1664 » rassemble les peintures monumentales réalisées pour les communautés monastiques d’Andalousie, qui ont fait la renommée de l’artiste, ainsi qu’un ensemble remarquable de portraits et de natures mortes.

Cette exposition est organisée par le musée du Louvre, la National Gallery de Londres et The Art Institute of Chicago, conjointement avec l'exposition « Sculpter la couleur » qui présente des chefs-d'œuvre du Museo Nacional de Escultura

🌍 From 7 October 2026, immerse yourself in the striking naturalism of Francisco de Zurbarán, one of the leading figures of seventeenth-century Spanish painting.

The exhibition “Zurbarán. 1598-1664” brings together the monumental paintings created for monastic communities in Andalusia that established the artist’s reputation, alongside a remarkable selection of portraits and still lifes.

This exhibition is organized by the Musée du Louvre, the National Gallery, London, and the Art Institute of Chicago, in conjunction with “Sculpting Colour”, an exhibition presenting masterpieces from the National Museum of Sculpture in Valladolid.

This exhibition is supported by Deloitte, Grand Patron.

With the support of the Cercle International du Louvre and the American Friends of the Louvre.

Using multispectral reflectography, researchers found a tiny image of the artist with dark hair and a paintbrush in the wine jug of his painting Bacchus. This could be Caravaggio's only known self-portrait.
