I think @DGlaucomflecken should do a bit on cardiac imaging. Cardiology is reading CTs and MRIs. Personally I’d love to see a spoof of the cardiology-radiology collaboration that goes into these complex scans.
@SparkyDeviceRN If I’m not mistaken, it comes from a word meaning “compression” in French. French doctors probably published the initial description of the phenomenon, so they get the naming rights 😝
Technologist student asked me today how to spell “cardiac tamponade.”
I said “like lemonade, but tampon instead of lemon.”
Petition to change how we pronounce it?
Last day in clinic as a general fellow. Thank you to Dr. Jaber for two years of service and mentorship. Thank you to the clinic staff who keep us pointed in the right direction. Thank you to @venumenon10@CCFcards for the opportunity to be here. Now on to #CVImaging fellowship!
@Sst73881Stuart@argulian@MDBeni If you look closely at the diastolic interval you can see mitral inflow above the baseline. Cant have mitral inflow and mitral regurgitation at the same time, so I don’t think it’s diastolic MR, but I could be wrong.
@SeanMurphyMBBCh got it!
This patient had aortic valve endocarditis and severe AR causing premature MV closure and diastolic MR. AR pressure half-time was 85msec and there was holodiastolic flow reversal in the abdominal aorta. Went for aortic root replacement.
@MattAThompson24 I wonder if there’s a good way to adjust for severity of graft infection (I.e. presence of a structural complication such as abscess or aortic regurgitation) and see if preop abx duration still predicts reinfection risk independently.
@MattAThompson24 I wonder if the patients who had less time on abx before surgery were sicker with more extensive infection prompting more urgent surgery. Maybe shorter preop abx duration and high reinfection risk both reflect the underlying substrate rather than a causal relationship?
@drjohnm Good-faith skepticism, and disagreement are important.
Deliberate lies and quackery are bad.
Distinguishing between these two types of challenges to the status quo, one constructive and the other destructive, can be difficult at times.
@marklewismd Fun fact:
Ginger contains gingerols, a group of phenols that impart flavor and act as weak non-competitive 5HT3 antagonists. This can help with motion sickness on an airplane :)
