As we observe the impacts of #climatechange on health the next pandemic is a matter of when, not if. @GaviDerrick and I were pleased to talk to @TheGPMB co-chairs @KolindaGK and @JoyPhumaphi_ to express @Gavi ‘s commitment to their vital work and to share our experiences responding to #COVID19, #mpox and other emergencies:
Reminder: #COVID19 is still hospitalizing people. @mvakerkhove emphasized, "We have ample evidence & studies upon studies of the protective effects of vaccines in preventing hospitalizations, severe disease & deaths. So it really remains critical that people get vaccinated."
Covid has contributed to excess deaths over the last 3 years, unsurprisingly. And in 2023 too - which may surprise some. Covid still causing serious illness in those at risk. Boosters are important for those at high risk and supported by #COVAX@gavi#VaccinesWork
C0VID & excess deaths: The last 3 years have seen a very big increase in total deaths in the world.
As this analysis from The Economist shows, C0VID is responsible for basically all of it.
2022 worse than 2020
XS death rates still high in 2023
