We are worried because of the incorrect interpretation of these tests. There is so much more info people need to know. Unnecessarily treating a MTHFR SNP can result increased suppression of BRCA, resulting on cancer. https://t.co/h8lOwtCVFG

@GCBrianne More than happy for you to call me out. I like a good discussion. I am really interested in why you think a SNP analayis is superior to whole exome sequencing. I believe you cannot assume anything, when it comes to genetics and the epigenome.
@GCBrianne @Forbes@23andMe This gene is likely associated with BRCA as a protective positive selection, due to hyper methylation. Treating it, bypasses natural selection and would likely result in worsening of the condition. https://t.co/dWwvqflnnO

People don't realise that this mutation is protective, quite possibly to protect against a BRCA deletion. @Forbes@StevenSalzberg1@nytimes

@nytimes There are many additional things you need to know when interpreting a #BRCA gene result from @23andMe. Often, misinterpretation of this test increases the risk of #breastcancer further, by increasing methylation by treating #MTHFR. #breastcancer

@MyGeneCounsel@sara_altschule@AmbryGenetics@bustle People use @23andMe to discover they have an MTHFR SNP, but by treating it turn the BRCA gene off more, which increases the risk of breast cancer. It's all in the intepretation, but the quality of the test it ia impossible to accurately interpret the results.
@MyGeneCounsel@sara_altschule@AmbryGenetics@bustle Pointless doing a BRCA gene test, without knowing how that gene is expressed. You need to know your acetylation, methylation and ubiquitination status to determine how protective the BRCA is against excess ESR1.
@StevenSalzberg1@nytimes@23andMe Yet practitioners prescribe methylated B's to bypass it without truly knowing the methylation status of patient. Therefore we are encouraging greater evolutionary positive selection of this gene mutation. It's inaccurate, dangerous and unethical.
