I was playing a bit with @unity URP and hacked around GI based on Reflection probes. It has a lot of limitations but will work for my project.
I’m surprised with the result.
@TheCronussy @NikTekOfficial Previously people would say something like this about Crysis and it was notoriously unoptimized- can it run Crysis? It was built to show off cutting edge visuals and physics. Everyone understood that at that time. Bot so much with UE today))
@PaulsGamingLive @NikTekOfficial ARC Raiders and The Finals both use NVidia fork of the engine. And quite optimized. It’s tye same situation as with Riot games’ Valorant - custom rendering and networking so it runs good for wider audience.
@NikTekOfficial I think it struggles with everything. But if to be serious. Bang-for-a-buck is terrible with UE starting since version 4.0 - it doesn’t look that good how badly it performs. It’s full of hacks, especially related to rendering side.
@brammflakes Let’s get back to idTech 3)) And seriously, considering your experience in industry, why aren’t open sourced community maintained id tech engines being used for something like stylized FPS? Not every game should have realistic visuals.
@AliAlshehri_O@30SecondYou @NikTekOfficial As far as I know CDPR made some fixes to problematic areas of the engine. And did it so well that Epic games is back-porting those fixes into mainline version of the engine. Another example - The Finals. UE5, and works great, but it’s based on Nvidia’s fork of UE5, with fixes.
@SkyAsassino@30SecondYou @NikTekOfficial Not entirely true. World streaming in EU 5 is quirky and these stutters are result of streaming loading and unloading resources. As far as I know documentation for this feature is lacking details and game devs have to empirically find proper setup for optimal world streaming.
@bulkhead It was good enough. Too bad it wasn’t released even in prototype state it was. The core was solid everything else could’ve been added later. I’d play the crap out of it if it wasn’t canceled.
🩹🔫 When you find yourself in a sticky situation, hold it together with the Duct Taped Weapon Skin Set for Insurgents!
Coming soon in Operation: Resurgence!
@phantasyftw Gotcha. I thought that more aspects of quake engine were ported to UE. I think I tested @WiggleWizard quake unity movement character. SMOOTH! Well, it’s pity that PROMOD was put on ice. I really enjoyed playing it.
