Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources @aBayraktar1 has made key staatements on Türkiye’s energy activities in Somalia during his appearance on @gundemedairhs Sağır Oda.

Bayraktar said seismic surveys carried out by the Oruç Reis vessel have been completed and are now undergoing detailed analysis, stressing that the process is time-consuming and requires extreme precision, with drilling locations determined with “jeweler-level sensitivity.” He noted that no drilling has yet taken place in Somalia, but the current target is to begin offshore drilling in 2026, while emphasizing that drilling does not automatically guarantee a discovery.

This is where the Somali proverb applies: “haddii nin waasho, walaalkiis baa u miyir qaba” — if a man goes mad, it becomes his brother’s duty to restrain him.

Anyone who conspires in the expulsion of 1.5 million Palestinians is neither sane nor moral, and certainly not on the right side of history. History will not be kind to them. That is precisely why the rest of Somalis will not allow this to happen — just as they rejected the previous Somaliland leader’s attempt to trade land for a phantom “recognition.”

Not a single Palestinian should be expelled from their homeland, and no Muslim or Somali should ever be complicit in such a crime. The forced displacement of a civilian population is a war crime and a crime against humanity.

Northern Somalia (Somaliland) is not a vacant territory to be handed over to another people, as the speaker casually suggests — as if it were a walk in the park.
