@WhySharksMatter I've never been asked to appear on Shark Week or Sharkfest or Sharkapooza so don't know if I'd accept or not. I guess I'd want to have some control over the material.
@WhySharksMatter A student at UGA new to Judy's limnology class was overheard asking, "Is Mrs. Meyer as tough a grader as Dr. Helfman?" (btw: the answer was still yes)
@carlsafina@BankStreetLib well deserved! congrats. I've recommended the book to several groups when I've done a reading of my orca novel. They're the right audience to learn more.
@WhySharksMatter I'd be more than pissed if I had taken the time to review the article, commented and recommended it, then learned about the bait-and-switch. I wonder if they advise their reviewers about that policy.
@marinemammalogy@EmmaChereskin I took a marine mammal behavior class from Lou Herman at Univ Hawaii many decades ago. In addition to being a pioneering and insightful researcher, Herman was a great teacher. This award, and its recipients, are a tribute to his efforts.
Fanfare! My shark-friendly spoof of the sharksploitation genre. FINS, A Novel of Relentless Satire, won the 2023/24 Reader Views Silver Prize for humor:โhilariously darkโฆ[with] outlandish in-your-face humorโฆ unlike any shark book previously written.โ Available from Amazon.
@WhaleTalesOrg We left Kaunakakai Harbor on Moloka'i just before dawn. As the sun rose over Mau'i, we encountered a mom and calf humpback. We watched for a few minutes before they dove, the mom treating us to a backlit waterfall off her flukes. It was magical.
