No 2 tip for teachers wanting to get students to engage in mathematical discourse. Mind the Cognitive Load. If the tool being used is new to students, lower the cognitive demand of the math. If the math is new, use tools they already know how to use. #mathequity#iteachmath

So proud of former student and @Geneva304 grad, Grace Keegan. I know the work she will do for women's health will reach far and wide. We need a hundred thousand Gracies! https://t.co/dsgiukjH90
Oh my gosh. I just realized something. Memorizing multiplication facts is not just pointless, it could actually hamper a student's ability to reason later on. If a student doesn't understand that 4x3 is equal to 4+4+4 or 3+3+3+3, then OF COURSE they don't understand why a+a=2a.
An extremely powerful post. Makes me think about what we are doing right and what we are doing wrong when supporting struggling math students. Such great ideas.
If you're a support/intervention/resource teacher, you absolutely have to read @saravdwerf's blog post called "The #1 thing I did in my support Math Classes". It's an honest reality check that we all need. https://t.co/otgTxanFtn #MTBoS#iteachmath
