.@elonmusk says that no one can name a person who died from his aid cuts. In fact, I've met the kids who are dying, and I've talked to the families who lost children. In my columns, I've cited many, many names of people who have died because of Musk's aid cuts. A few examples:
*Yamah Freeman was a 23-year-old woman who died in childbirth because Musk cut funding for the diesel for ambulances in her part of Liberia. She couldn't get to a hospital and died as people were carrying her there. I talked to her parents and sister in their village.
*Gbessey Kiadu, age 1, died of malaria because of his cuts to malaria medication in Liberia. I talked to his mom in her village.
*Ibrahim Koroma, an infant, died of AIDS in Sierra Leone after he interrupted HIV supplies. I talked to health workers who cared for him.
*Achol Deng was an 8-year-old girl with HIV in South Sudan who died when Musk cut funding for the health care worker who provided her medicines. I talked to the healthcare workers.
I could go on and on. In almost every village you go to in South Sudan, Uganda, Liberia, Sierra Leone or other countries I reported in, you find people dying because of aid cuts. I challenge Musk: Come with me on a reporting trip, and we'll talk to these moms and dads, and you'll see the dying children themselves. I think if you see the kids whose lives are at stake, maybe you'll change your mind.

Jahrhundert für 2,5 Milliarden Euro neue Autobahnen durch die Stadt zu fräßen und die einzige autobefreite und begrünte Straße der Stadt wieder zurückbaut, weil Berlin sich ja das „Auto nicht verbieten lasse", muss sich über diese Hitze nicht wundern und ist dafür maßgeblich selbstverantwortlich.

Wir könnten unsere Städte um 4 Grad runterkühlen, mit weniger Autos, mehr Bäume, mehr Parks und Plätze statt immer mehr Parkplätze. Einfach mit gesundem Menschenverstand und weniger Ideologie. Die Klimakrise darf nicht als Ausrede fürs Nichtstun dienen. Paris hat gezeigt: Den grünen Umbau unserer Städte haben wir selbst in der Hand. Man muss es nur wollen!

BREAKING: Pope Leo XIV humiliates fake Catholic J.D. Vance after he flew all the way to Rome to invite him to America’s 250th anniversary by bluntly rejecting the offer.

Instead of traveling to the States, Leo will spend July 4th on the Italian island of Lampedusa, a major entry point for migrants entering into Europe from Africa. Rather than engage in Trump's jingoistic celebration of American military might, the pope is calling attention to the very same class of people that this White House spends much of its time demonizing.

The rebuke of the invite is noteworthy because Vance personally invited the pope to the 250th celebration during his visit to Rome last year. This marks yet another instance of Leo snubbing the Trump administration, following soon after he rejected an invitation to join Trump's corrupt "Board of Peace."

Vance likes to make a big show of being a Catholic convert, but everything he does is profoundly out of step with Catholic morality. He's a key member of a regime that's brutalizing migrants on a daily basis and Pope Leo has made defending migrants a cornerstone of his papacy.

Trump has vowed that this July 4th will be "the most spectacular birthday party the world has ever seen" but judging by the deeply embarrassing failure that was his big military parade, our expectations are low. Pope Leo ain't missing much!

I'm a former defense attorney and currently a civil liberties attorney with no political dog in this fight. I watched the video at least 10 times from different angles and at different speeds and waited to offer an opinion, which I still reserve the right to change if additional information changes the calculus.

It is very clear that the officers instigated the confrontation. The woman initially tried to wave them past her.

ICE officers have no authority to search a US citizen or arrest her (unless there's probable cause to believe she's harboring undocumented individuals, not a contention here). A woman surrounded by masked, armed men who have no law enforcement authority over her has every right to try to escape. Video shows her steering wheel is turned to the right, clearly an attempt to leave WITHOUT hitting anyone and steer clear of the officer standing towards the front of her car. That officer had time to step to the side, which is where he was when he shot her.

Even a real police officer would not have the right to shoot at her for trying to flee. This is well-established in the case law; deadly force may not be used simply to prevent someone from getting away. Given that the ICE officers had no law enforcement authority to begin with, AND the video footage shows she was trying to escape a perceived threat, not to kill anyone, the crime is all the more inexcusable.

I'm praying for the victim's family, especially her children. I'm also praying for all the conservatives who are so unprincipled and lost they're excusing this terrible crime, and gloating over a death that will leave three young children motherless, because of the victim's politics.
