However, there are several new Thoroughbreds that have arrived at the lots.

Two Eyed Kid is very emaciated, Little John's Prayer is in in rough shape, two senior bonded TB mares Overvalued and Princess Perfect are two more of the many statistics of thrown away TB broodmares which is an absolute disgrace. No industry funds for them, no retirement plan for them. The Jockey Club turns their back on them time and time again and will just let them ship because folks they just don't give a damn about these horses in the pipeline no matter how much they want to spin it like they do. They hold no one accountable for throwing these horses away like garbage. It is despicable that they view these horses as less than because they are in the pipeline and the JC doesn't want to dirty their hands. They are just ok with our organization and others begging for funds to the public to help Thoroughbreds in the pipeline. Think about that. Think about how the JC is ok with you donating your hard earned dollars so they don't have to and they are sitting on millions. 💡❓

[New Vocations @NewVocations]

As the racing world turns its attention to Keeneland for the 2026 Breeders’ Cup World Championships, we're highlighting a special connection between one of this year's biggest contenders and three of our very own New Vocations horses!

🏆SOVEREIGNTY, the reigning Horse of the Year, is set to take on the $7 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) today! The Godolphin homebred made history in 2025, capturing the Kentucky Derby (G1), Belmont Stakes (G1), and Travers Stakes (G1). This year, he added another Grade 1 victory to his résumé with a commanding win in the Whitney Stakes at Saratoga.

Behind Sovereignty's remarkable success is his sire, INTO MISCHIEF, one of the most influential stallions in modern Thoroughbred racing and a multiple-time leading North American sire.

But Sovereignty isn't the only horse with Into Mischief bloodlines worth celebrating this weekend... Meet three New Vocations geldings with their own unique personalities and exciting futures ahead!

𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗙𝗔𝗦𝗧 𝗔𝗟 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗖𝗢 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗬 & 𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗢𝗪

Another morning, another milestone for our girls!

Indy and Willow did so well during their first turnout yesterday that we decided to put them back outside overnight. And this morning, they enjoyed their very first breakfast al fresco at Mareworthy!

All it took was a little whistle and the shake of a feed bucket, and both girls came right up to the fence. 🥰

We couldn't be happier with how calmly they're settling into their new routine.

𝗕𝗨𝗧 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗘𝗫𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗟𝗬 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗪𝗘 𝗙𝗘𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗠?

One of our biggest priorities right now is helping Indy and Willow regain healthy body condition without making sudden changes to their diets.

When the girls first arrived, we started with just a handful of grain twice a day.

After their first week, we've gradually increased that to approximately two pounds per feeding, twice daily.

We feed Hallway Feeds exclusively at Mareworthy, and right now both mares are receiving 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗼𝗮𝘁𝘀.

🌾 𝗪𝗛𝗬 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗢𝗔𝗧𝗦?

Staminoats is a fortified feed made with ingredients including ground oats, ground corn, alfalfa meal, and other sources of protein, vitamins, and minerals.

Its guaranteed nutritional analysis includes:
🥣 14% crude protein
🥣 3% crude fat
🥣 11% maximum crude fiber

We chose it as a familiar starting ration while we carefully reintroduce concentrate feeding and monitor how the mares respond.

𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗪𝗛𝗬 𝗔𝗥𝗘𝗡'𝗧 𝗪𝗘 𝗝𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗚𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗠 𝗟𝗢𝗧𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗛𝗜𝗚𝗛-𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗘 𝗙𝗘𝗘𝗗?

Because rebuilding body condition takes time!

When a horse has been underweight, suddenly introducing large amounts of grain or dramatically changing the diet can create digestive and metabolic problems.

We want to increase their nutritional intake thoughtfully, monitor their appetites and manure, and work with our veterinarian to determine what's appropriate as their recovery progresses.

𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗔𝗚𝗘 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧! 🌱

Even though Indy and Willow are now enjoying pasture turnout, we continue providing our Timothy-alfalfa hay mix.

Forage is the foundation of a horse's digestive health, and supporting normal hindgut function is especially important during nutritional rehabilitation.

Pasture and hay also help us provide a more consistent source of fiber while we're being careful about how much concentrate the mares receive.

🦷 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗡𝗘𝗫𝗧 𝗨𝗣: 𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗟 𝗘𝗫𝗔𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦!

We already have dental appointments scheduled for the farm in the next couple of weeks, and both Indy and Willow will receive examinations.

Why is this so important?

A horse can have access to excellent feed and still struggle to maintain weight if dental problems interfere with chewing.

Sharp enamel points, painful teeth, abnormal wear, or other oral issues can affect how comfortably and effectively a horse processes forage.

We'll have both mares evaluated and address anything requiring treatment based on the veterinarian's findings.

𝗜𝗧'𝗦 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗝𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗠𝗨𝗖𝗛 𝗪𝗘 𝗙𝗘𝗘𝗗. 𝗜𝗧'𝗦 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗘𝗡𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗜𝗥 𝗪𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗘 𝗕𝗢𝗗𝗬 𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗕𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗙𝗜𝗧 𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝗜𝗧.

We're also providing gastrointestinal support as part of their individualized care plans while continuing to monitor their health and recovery.

𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗔 • 𝗘𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 • 𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬

These are the three pillars of Mareworthy's mission.

We believe in sharing not just how our horses are doing, but why we make the decisions we do. Nutrition, veterinary care, dental health, and monitoring changes in body condition are all important pieces of the bigger picture.

For today, though, we're simply celebrating two happy mares who came right up for breakfast, ate enthusiastically, and seem to be enjoying their new routine.

I’ve been holding off on making this post for a bit, but we’ve made the decision to officially retire Courageux following his start at Saratoga. He came out of his race with a tendon injury, and after weighing our options, we all agreed that the best thing for him was to rehab with retirement in mind, rather than rehab with the hopes of racing again and risk another injury. Soft tissue injuries are tricky, and there are so many unknowns from horse to horse.
These are never easy decisions to make, especially when you’ve put so much time, effort, and heart into a horse. Courageux still had so much ahead of him, and while it’s disappointing that his racing career has come to an end, I would much rather make this decision now than ever have to wish I had made it sooner. He has given us enough, and he deserves a long, happy life beyond the racetrack. The silver lining is that Courageux isn’t going anywhere. He’ll be staying right here with our team, where he’ll begin learning the ropes of being a stable pony. ❤️
