PhD aspirant Bryan Heyer spent last week presenting his groundwater research at the @g360group annual University Consortium meeting at the @UofG. He was also able to spend time traveling around Ontario with a @UWaterloo group visiting past and potential future field sites.
PhD Candidate Meg Birmingham presenting new findings at BrinesCon and AbGradCon. Meg’s research focuses on biosignature entrapment and detection in gypsum collected from Mars Analog sites here on Earth! @LPItoday@abgradcon@kugeology@univofkansas@SpaceOceansOAST
nuclear materials in reactor and remediation settings. Will serves as the M.S. student representative for the department.
Will is originally from Montréal, Canada and (fittingly) plays hockey. He also enjoys painting, playing guitar, and not sharing the aux cord.
Happy Thursday and welcome back to our Spotlight (Canadian Edition)! This Thursday we have our Master’s student Committee Representative; Will Dufresne!
Will is a 2nd year M.S. student working with Dr. C Marshall. Will’s current research bridges solid-state physics,
materials science, and mineralogy, focusing on the interactions between spin, phonons, and polarons in natural semiconducting crystals. Next fall, he’ll be starting a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering at Clemson University using computational and experimental techniques to study
California to mid-continent US to Spain.
Hailing from Pittsburgh, Pa, Meg is a true yinzer transplanted to Kansas. She enjoys golfing, skiing, traveling, playing board games, and eating.
Hello and welcome back to our very special, Spotlight Thursday! Every club MUST have a good treasurer, luckily we have Meg Birmingham, who is the best treasurer!
Meg is a 2nd year Paleontology/Planetary Geology PhD student working under Alison Olcott. Part of…
Part of the collaborative Oceans Across Space and Time (OAST) research team, she focuses on how differing evaporitic environments of deposition influence life detection in gypsum, with the goal of applying her findings to relict ocean worlds. Meg’s field sights range from..

Malisse enjoys hiking with her dog, Duke, exploring the art museums around Kansas City, and swing dancing.
Spotlight Thursday! Say hello to the GGSO Secretary, Malisse Lummus!
Malisse is a 2nd year PhD student studying Glaciology and Remote Sensing under Dr. Leigh Stearns. As a member of the High Mountain Asia Team (HiMAT), Malisse is studying the connections between climate change,
and glacier contributions to meltwater in the Himalayas using a combination of modeling and observation techniques. Malisse is also the co-creator of https://t.co/AyRiHprG7n, a website designed to guide students through the graduate application process. She hopes to expand..
