earn £100k in britain and every pound after it is taxed at 62% until £125k. got a student loan? 71%. in socialism scotland it's 69.5%, or 78.5% with the loan. it's essentially a salary cap.

then at £100,001 you lose the 30 free childcare hours and tax free childcare on the spot. not tapered, gone, for every kid. a £25k pay rise across that band puts £9.5k in your pocket, before the nursery bill goes up.

so everyone with any sense stashes it in the pension and stops. or drops to four days. or goes to dubai.

tell me a more anti productivity policy than that

The desire to become a parent matters - but it cannot come at the expense of protecting women and safeguarding children.

Some boundaries exist for good reason. We should think very carefully before removing them.

Children are not commodities, and women’s bodies should never become a marketplace.

@DeanEggitt It’s this very annoying bias people have that if they can’t see it, it isn’t being done. Labs, IT systems, pharmacy, lots of other NHS roles that people forget are there doing loads of really important things.
