Controlling your private keys is only half the self custody battle.
You need to run a node and verify ownership of the UTXOs those private keys can sign for, otherwise you are trusting a third party aka “pissing in the wind”.
Often times wallets will say they are “self custodial” but in reality you are trusting them to verify your UTXOs for you and in doing so losing any and all privacy.
That is not self custody IMHO, @FullyNoded fixes this.
“We all have to die some time, and it may be better to die fighting for survival, or for a cause, than to live a long but empty and purposeless life.”
— Theodore J. Kaczynski
"Man can only derive life and enjoyment from a perpetual search and appropriation; that is, from a perpetual application of his faculties to objects, or from labor. This is the origin of property."

"The supporters of the government are divided into three groups - the *knaves* who stand to benefit from the government, the *dupes* who think they are free because they can vote, and those who can see the true situation but can’t or won’t do anything to change it."
- L. Spooner
"I do not know how it happens that nature fails to place within the hearts of men a burning desire for liberty, a blessing so great that when it is lost all evils follow thereafter, and even the blessings that remain lose taste because of their corruption by servitude."
- Boétie
