Dr Michael O'Connor, National Clinical Advisor and Group Lead, HSE Acute Operations speaks now and states the need to improve access times to ICU, particularly that 50% of patients should be admitted within 1 hour of a decision to admit. This is only 6% of patients currently.
Focus also needs to be placed on delayed discharges from ICU, accounting for 1,515 patients delayed more than 24 hours. This causes issues for access for patients who need an ICU bed. #INICUA2023
