This is not acceptable. Mailonline reports women are no longer venturing out or coming to Braintree, Essex, on Thursdays as itโs the day hundreds of young male migrants are bussed into the town from Wethersfield asylum accommodation 12 miles away.
The men, almost exclusively African and Middle Eastern, hang around the bus depot whistling at the schoolgirls as they step out from the buses.
Locals say this kind of action has led to Braintree becoming a ghost town on the Thursdays.
I note that Burnham seems to have a strong view on almost every social subject under the sun, but remains schtum when it comes to the effect illegal migrants are having on our nation.
At best women in the area are uncomfortable at worst they have a genuine fear. This as I say is not acceptable.
Does Burnham care? If it was a Northern town heโd be all over it but because itโs the South he sees no votes in it.
Heโs got a bounce in the polls to 27% right now.
With his attitude to places like Braintree I guarantee he doesnโt keep it.
John Healey resigned as Defence Secretary because he said the Governmentโs failure to fund defence properly would make Britain less safe. He demanded 3% by 2030 and presented his resignation as a matter of principle.
Now he is Chancellor and suddenly that principle can wait. The 3% commitment is being pushed off to another Spending Review. The urgency has disappeared. The man who resigned because the money wasnโt there is now the man hiding behind process and spin to explain why the money still isnโt there.
So what exactly did John Healey resign over?
Either he meant what he said as Defence Secretary, in which case he is now knowingly accepting a settlement he warned would leave Britain less safe. Or he didnโt, and his supposedly principled resignation was a calculated political manoeuvre to help bring down Keir Starmer and secure his own advancement under Burnham.
Neither explanation is remotely acceptable.
You cannot make the defence of the country your great point of principle when it suits your political ambitions, then quietly abandon it once those ambitions have been rewarded.
A resignation on principle is supposed to cost you something. Healeyโs appears to have earned him the Treasury.
That makes his retreat now worse than hypocrisy. It calls into question the integrity of the resignation itself.
Britainโs security is too important to be used as a prop in a Cabinet power play. If Healey believed 3% by 2030 was necessary to keep Britain safe, he should deliver it. If he no longer believes that, he owes the country an explanation of what changed.
Otherwise his great act of principle increasingly looks like exactly what it was supposed not to be: a cowardly and calculated piece of political theatre.

A horse-drawn carriage ride may look charming, but the horse pulling it experiences a life of stress, strain and danger.
Forced to navigate crowded streets, loud traffic, vehicle exhaust and hard pavement, New York City carriage horses face conditions that are unsafe and completely unnatural for them. When they are not working, many are kept in cramped urban stables instead of open pasture, without the freedom to graze, move naturally or socialize as horses need.
No tourist attraction is worth a horseโs suffering. Please, SIGN NOW to pledge never to ride in a horse-drawn carriage in New York City and other urban areas. Together, we can help end this cruelty.

John Healey's resignation as defence secretary:
"You have been unable, and the Treasury has been unwilling, to commit the resources that the nation needs to defend the country at this time of rising threats."
Now he is Chancellor, he is "unable" and "unwilling".

Hereโs Wes Streeting on Sunday, saying he would resign if the necessary funds for Defence werenโt forthcoming.
