Miyazaki, co-founder of Studio Ghibli, has directed critically acclaimed films like "Spirited Away" and "Princess Mononoke," which tackle complex themes such as environmental protection and peace in a way that is accessible to children. The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation praised Miyazaki's ability to create thought-provoking films that resonate with audiences of all ages.

The foundation also selected three other individuals and one group as 2024 recipients of the award. The winners will be honored at a ceremony in Manila in November.

The Ramon Magsaysay Award is given annually to individuals and groups who have made outstanding contributions to Asia, emulating the values of former Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay, known for his integrity and leadership.
