I support President Trump, but his first administration was much more hawkish on Iran. People like Mike Pompeo understood the nature of the Islamic Republic and took a far tougher approach.
Now JD Vance represents a very different view. It seems to me like @potus is trying to appeal to MAGA by saying war is bad and economic pressure is better. But broad economic pressure does not break the regime. It falls on ordinary people first, creating inflation, shortages, and hardship, while the people in power protect themselves.
We have seen this in Venezuela, and we have seen it in Cuba for decades. It did not bring the political change people hoped for. Perhaps, when this pressure fails to change the Islamic Republic’s behavior, our president will have no other option but to return to the military option. @marklevinshow @VDHanson
