@LDiscernment Haw may be completely clean. The business may be exactly what it looks like. But trust in management isn’t just about the CEO — it’s about the entire governance ecosystem.
It’s not about his absence it’s about the culture of the board and the company. What can we trust
The largest shareholder, sitting as chairman, allegedly ran a parallel scheme tipping nine people around the company’s most sensitive events. That doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It reflects a board that was never truly independent, where insider control was absolute and accountability was minimal.
So what do you now re-examine? Every acquisition multiple, every maintenance vs growth capex classification, every working capital presentation. Not because fraud is confirmed — but because the person setting the tone at the top was apparently comfortable operating outside the rules when it suited him.
@SimeonResearch_@BetterIRR@Uzocapital Posts on https://t.co/KEILus7b8M in 2027 will all be like “the thing I learned from this investment is that if high level board members are untrustworthy then the investment thesis collapses.” No! You already knew that. You chose to ignore it !
@SimeonResearch_@BetterIRR@Uzocapital Yeah I think this is not being treated with the respect in deserved. Tells you about the culture and it’s not positive
@investingdpark Bull market lessons can be dangerous lessons Sustainable competitive advantage does a lot of heavy lifting in this list and in this strategy is truly not there for 90% of these if investors are being honest with themselves.
@CJ0pp3l_Sub@LeoLilja Debt levels make me nervous here as well They need to take a breather now and pay this down like they have done in the past. A jump in interest rates could freeze the entire aquisition strategy
An episode on Fairfax would be interesting. Especially on why you think the company has fundamentally changed and the narrative that they are only doing well because this is a “insurance hard market “ and not due to any fundamental change in the company which is many people’s view
@MoS_Investing@TimothyBuffett Yeah. What happens when his appendix bursts or he breaks a leg surfing. These rules work only because you got a pile of cash cushion to fall back on. These rules rest of us keep grinding
@DrewCohenMoney Prem Watsa thought it was a steal because it was selling at book value. People were thinking that you could not get real work done on an iPhone and that a keyboard was necessary for a serious business device. The app economy was not a thing yet
