Wonderful to see the @WHO announce today that it's expanding its Prequalification (PQ) Programme to cover a wider range of medical devices, including new TB screening technologies and contraceptives: https://t.co/j4jL4UTMck
i really liked this piece by @EnlliMcA on how Zambia used regulatory reliance to approve a new HIV drug in just 12 days. it’s also a good reminder of why we should pay more attention to public institutions in LMICs.

.@Dr_Atoosa and @IasonGabriel make the case that AI should benefit everyone, including people who had no direct role in developing it. I particularly like their call to make AI and the infrastructure needed to use it widely available.

"Access to medical knowledge shouldn't depend on geography," said Daniel Nadler, founder and CEO of OpenEvidence.
That's why OpenEvidence and @AnthropicAI are bringing a specialized version of OpenEvidence, free, to clinicians in about 100 low- and middle-income countries, including Uganda, Angola, Sudan, Haiti, and Mongolia. More here: https://t.co/UxdEaHSkla
Thanks to @BloombergDotOrg for hosting us this week to talk about reducing lead poisoning, and for their leading role on this work.
So grateful to our shared grantees like @PureEarthNow and @LeadElimination who do the hard work of measuring and reducing exposure on the ground.
Zambia approved a new HIV drug in just 12 days, far outpacing the average of 4-7 years in sub-Saharan Africa.
How did they do it? Most countries spend years reviewing drug applications that have already been approved by the FDA or EMA. Zambia decided to do things differently, building a system that treated prior approvals from trusted agencies as a starting point.
@EnlliMcA dives into Zambia’s process, and what we can learn from their experience:
Please get in touch if you want to support the South America Fire Fund, which will stop destructive fires in the region. This is led by @conservationx and anchored with a $30 million commitment from the

A few hours ago, INEGI, the Mexican National Institute of Statistics and Geography, a government agency, published its Encuesta Intercensal (EIC) 2025 (intercensal survey 2025).
Here is the press release:

Page 9 reports the total fertility rate (TFR). INEGI estimates Mexico’s TFR for 2024 at 1.2 (screenshot in Spanish below). Yes, 1.2, only slightly above Japan’s level in the same year (1.15). By 2026, Mexico’s TFR could fall below Japan’s.
I don’t find words to describe this.
Enjoyed talking to @AlterIgoe about Launchpad Funds -- please don't forget to apply by October 2nd to be considered for funding. https://t.co/O2dojM9kOw

The U.S. and other wealthy countries cut global health aid dramatically last year. Over the next few budget cycles, dozens of national governments will be deciding what their health systems will look like for the next decade, with far less donor money than they planned.
Today we're launching our new Health Aid Transition Fund to help them get those decisions right, putting $165 million behind analysis and financing support for governments so the most cost-effective work survives the transition.
And I couldn’t be more excited to have Amanda on board leading this work - she’s been high on my “to hire” list for almost a decade at this point!
Very excited that our new Health Aid Transition Fund is live! $165m in committed funding, building on ~$18m we’ve already granted to teams working directly with governments navigating the biggest changes in aid in recent memory. Huge challenge and I'm glad we're stepping up.
