Fyr Baker 1.0 is out!
A texture baking addon for Blender with its own GPU baking engine. High to low poly bakes, much faster than Blender's built-in baker, and no exporting to another app just to bake.

Among some fixes to projection in Fyr Baker. I also decided to completely overhaul the UI. The earlier ui was a result of slowly building it up over time. And it became a mess. Now it's a bit more structured and way more compact.
This is arriving in the next update later today.
@blencoat Thank you! And yeah.. There definitely is. Although, I will say that I havnt seen any that have gone to the same lengths to provide as many features as industry standard bakers.
SimpleBake, for example, doesnt have its own custom backend renderer. Which Fyr does π

@critchomatic@Pavel_Oliva if by up-down you mean the typical render at high, then scale down-supersampling. Then no. It exists in the backend but was replaced by jittered accumulation. It is much faster and provides a very similar result.
@iursingh It even has a few features which Marmoset doesnt. Such as live reproject of the UV when you change them. A "density" bake which is similar to thickness in that it calculates pixels based on surrounding geometry. Sending mesh+textures into painter + more
@iursingh Yes it's comparable. It's almost as fast as marmoset. I'm still optimizing it so hopefully it'll be able to fully match the speed.
Beyond that: it's modelled closely after marmoset. So a lot of features that Marmoset has has been carefully implemented in fyr baker too.
@maestrorobertus@Pavel_Oliva I agree. Which is why i made this. I'd even dare say that Fyr Baker handles seams better than marmoset. At least in the cases i've seen. This is possible because it doesnt bake using cycles. It bakes using a custom backend! It also nearly matches marmosets speed (still improving)
@quiperrr@ArtOfPilgrim That looks really nice! I was under the impression that blender couldnt do tiling textures at this moment. Are you telling me i was wrong?
@ExploredFiction@ArtOfPilgrim 3/3
Lastly. I've already added buttons that quickly send both textures and mesh into your prefered software. This is just a QoL feature. But i do believe that in this day and age with ai, it is important for real artists to actually find points where they could be more efficient.
@ExploredFiction@ArtOfPilgrim 2/?
You wouldnt have to rely on a big company that punishes you for cancelling subscriptions early.
You also get the added ability of being able to more instantly fix issues. Fyr can transfer already baked textures from uv to uv if you change them after a bake.
@ExploredFiction@ArtOfPilgrim Hey! So it's not necessarily the switch itself that can be problematic. It's a collection of things. To name some:
If you bake something, start texturing and realize a mistake. you might risk losing progress on the texture because you have to go back and fix the geometry. 1/?
@SoloSalsero@Pavel_Oliva Simplebake can forsure get the job done. But tt uses blenders own renderer (cycles) which isnt optimized for baking. Fyr uses a custom backend renderer which both accelerates the baking, but also gives you better AA, denoising, and other things you'd expect from standard bakers.
