Fellow Ugandans and friends of Uganda!
Two months ago, Museveni yet again usurped the will of the people of Uganda and declared himself president on gunpoint. A day later, gripped by shame and fear, the military invaded my home to harm me, but I was able to evade them and go into hiding.
Over the past two months, the regime has looked for me everywhere. They have raided the homes of many colleagues and fellow leaders, mounted roadblocks and spot checks of vehicles and motorcycles, arrested and dismissed the police officers assigned to my campaign, raided our home in the village, and kept my home under siege. Well, they couldn't find me because the people of Uganda sheltered me and protected me.
Today, I am announcing my brief exit from the country to handle important work. Over the next few weeks, I will engage with our friends and allies all over the world before returning to Uganda to continue the push for freedom and democracy! For now, let's remain focused and united.

UPDATE: Regime security operatives have raided the home of my assistant, Comrade Najja Sherif. When they found he was not around, they abducted his wife instead after she told them she did not know his whereabouts. What a cowardly regime!
Here is a picture of my wife shared by Museveniโs son and head of our nation's military, Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
When soldiers on his orders raided our home, they made her to sit down, put her on gunpoint to reveal her phone passwords and my whereabouts, assaulted her, and eventually tore her nightdress shirt while filming. It was only after her blood pressure rose, and she became unconscious that these thugs left her, before she was rushed to hospital.
Like she narrated, these criminals were filming everything and definitely sending them to their deranged boss!
Barbie is strong and appreciates all of you who have reached out with messages of strength and solidarity, as she tries to recover from the trauma.
Indeed, when she swore for better for worse, she never imagined these thugs placing their filthy hands on her. But it happened, and she took it with grace. She courageously confronted the criminals and refused to surrender despite the violence.
Meanwhile, our home remains occupied by the military as they try to hunt me down.
No one is allowed to access my home, not even family members trying to deliver basic needs like food.
In all this, we remain encouraged by our undying faith that UGANDA WILL BE FREE. Museveni and his son will one day pay for all the crimes committed against the people of Uganda.

Here's the plot for tomorrow! We're challenging ourselves to make 50 phone calls each to voters! We're requesting them to turn up and vote, to guard their vote and to protect their victory. If 100,000 @NUP_Ug supporters and well-wishers can call 50 people each, we shall be able to reach 5 million people with the MESSAGE in one day. Call your family and friends, workmates, OBs and OGs, and everyone you know. Let's awaken citizens' consciousness on their role in creating #ANewUgandaNow! This is an opportunity for everyone at home and in the Diaspora to campaign directly.
A debate between contestants mostly helps to measure reasoning and oratory abilities, not necessarily the ability to perform. The best way to measure oneโs leadership abilities is by checking their record of performance where they have been in a position of leadership (even a smaller one). Debates can only come in for us to compare oneโs record of service with their speech and promises. Sometimes very good speakers are excellent liars, lazy procrastinators, terrible team players and indecisive cowards. Never measure anyone exclusively on the basis of their speeches and promises. Check HOW they have led at home (family), at school, in small associations, in their business, in other smaller leadership positions โฆ Their style and abilities are best seen there.
