Newsmaker of the week, hands down.
Drushantha Ramsamy also showed us how it's done, trying to navigate unethical workplaces. Keep receipts, note your objections and never, ever get seduced into doing what's wrong just because everyone else is normalising it.
#MadlangaCommission #AndreaJohnson #IDAC
South Africa is, by and large, a land of impunity. I guess thatโs why the Madlanga Commission feels so satisfying; it offers a glimpse of what accountability might look like.

Let me break down exactly what the government is doing with this World Bank loan. Itโs actually insanity. ๐ป
The government has officially taken out a $1.5 billion adjustable-rate (variable) loan denominated entirely in U.S. dollars.
โ The Grace Period of 3 years means they pay interest-only on the loan. (meaning zero reduction in the principal loan amount for the first 3 years).
โ The Current Rate is 3.66% (6 month, SOFR Variable Benchmark) + 1.35% (Fixed Margin) = 5.01% initial interest rate.
๐ง๐๐ผ ๐ ๐ฎ๐ท๐ผ๐ฟ ๐ฅ๐ถ๐๐ธ๐ ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฒ
โInterest Rate Risk: The 5.01% rate is variable and tied to global benchmarks. If global rates rise, the loan instantly becomes more expensive. (in dollars).
โCurrency Risk: The loan must be repaid in U.S. dollars. If the ZAR currency weakens against the USD, it will require significantly more Rands just to buy the dollars needed to service the same debt.
๐ฆ๐๐บ๐บ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐:
An interest-only, variable loan in a foreign currency pushes massive, unpredictable risk onto the country's future balance sheet.
Historic. 1 year ago I said Open weight models will beat Frontier... I got some strange looks ๐. Just a month ago they were claiming Open Weights are 6 months behind.
BREAKING: Kimi K3 by @Kimi_Moonshot is officially 1st on Frontend Web App Arena by DesignArena
With an Elo of 1326, this open-weight model leads the way, ahead of Fable 5, Sonnet 5, and Opus 4.8 by @AnthropicAI
Huge congrats to the @Kimi_Moonshot team for this achievement!
@Abramjee The BMW knew it was coming. It parked at an odd place, seems engine on because it moves a little. Seems like he/she didn't think it is a hit. They were ready to confront them when they came. Also think they chose the gas station because they knew the cameras were there.
We tested Kimi K3 and Fable on a real bug from the Cline repo, and found that while both models were able to fix it - Fable wins on speed & Kimi wins on cost.
- Kimi used 1.7x more tokens than Fable (1.2M vs. 730K)
- Fable finished 3.4x faster - 3.5 min and 18 tool calls vs. Kimiโs 12 min and 34 tool calls.
- Kimi cost 2.3x less ($0.92 vs. $2.13) thanks to its 3.3x per-token discount
Both runs used the same Cline harness, and the traces indicate that Kimi is RL trained to spend more tokens thinking and verifying before completing.
This is the first time we've seen an open weight model compete head to head with SOTA. Congratulations to the @Kimi_Moonshot team on this milestone!
Started with the $39 plan and used it up, @Kimi_Moonshot is a user-aligned company I'm happy to send money to. GLM-5.2 feels Opus tier, Kimi K3 feels Fable tier!
IDAC could have pursued people like the looters of Tembisa Hospital and they would be celebrated.
But they chose to arrest a young black woman for applying for a job she was qualified for and for โfuture state captureโ
The Hangwani Maumela syndicate already stole R2 Billion.
It is so disturbing, disappointing that Lt General Mkhwanazi gave them hint/ clue what they should investigate on #AdhocCommitte but bona didnโt find any wrong doing.
Sorry Lt General Mkhwanazi for wasted you time, you were dealing with a bunch of incompetent MPs.๐ญ
