In NYC, teachers are now writing report cards. One item on these is a Guided Reading Level. I was asked to do a correlation between the words in the books used to assign a GR Level and what was taught in the phonics program. Here is what I found. What does the GR level tell us?
I found this discussion of dyslexia fascinating. From Julian Elliott coauthor of The Dyslexia Debate (2014) & The Dyslexia Debate Revisited (2024). So many issues that need to be considered—including equity for all learners. https://t.co/jWzmrsGskT
Students with dyslexia from the University of Nebraska created this tool. Dyslexico offers a spell and grammar check program uniquely tailored to the needs of dyslexic users. Spelling and grammar correction made by dyslexics for dyslexics and it is FREE

Brain Veins as Light Detectors: A New Path to Deep Brain Imaging
Researchers developed a groundbreaking method to detect bioluminescence deep within the brain by engineering blood vessels to serve as light detectors.
This innovative approach utilizes a bacterial protein that causes blood vessels to dilate in response to light.
This dilation is then captured by MRI, allowing for precise localization of bioluminescent signals.
This technique, named bioluminescence imaging using hemodynamics (BLUsH), offers a novel way to study brain functions and gene expression without the limitations imposed by traditional optical imaging methods.

Content knowledge is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! It makes sense to build knowledge beginning with K. But there is value (and evidence) to teaching comprehension STRATEGIES, not SKILLS, to children. There is a difference.
