You think BDI ligands have been well studied across the whole periodic table? Not with tungsten and molybdenum!
Now they are nacnac-ing on the door to join the party. Thanks @Orgmet_ACS for the invitation to their special issue on early transition metals.

We are very happy to see our latest work published @NatureComms. We are very excited as we venture in to understanding the electronic structure of Ln4+ and other intermediate coupled ions and its impact on macroscopic behavior of these materials. https://t.co/H1f0awAYgb
🥳 when your student leaves you a set of crystals to run when they’re away for Easter break.
Michaela’s 7th crystal structure (not including polymorphs), and this one’s got uranium(III) in it!

Check out our new article in @ChemicalScience about the First 4f-complexes bearing a dianionic plumbole ligand. Featuring beautiful structures and new avenues for SMM design. Congrats to all authors. @L1st1gerLurch @Faye_94128@realkingadi https://t.co/DuaUXYithb
The structural characterization of a californium-carbon bond opens up questions about the electronic structure of the transplutonium elements - reported in this great N&V by @jenchem_ and @Storms_LaPierre@f_orbitals (For subscribers)

MChem Michaela’s crystals certainly passed muster today - 2nd structure for her this week!
Off to a brilliant start, and now a week of data gathering planned (or a 3rd on Fri).
The ligand prep makes these chunks of K metal look rather gory too!

Bad puns aside, this was a joy to work on and one of the hardest things I've done.
The structure was collected in Jan 2019, and the theory has taken a long time to understand and get right.
Turns out SO-CASSCF with [17e, 11o] is not a quick turnaround.

Anyone with a strong interest in coordination chemistry of lanthanides and actinides should drop us a message.
Those with prior experience in air-free synthetic techniques are highly encouraged to have a look!

I have a funded PhD studentship for home & overseas candidates. Start available early as Jan '22, or April '22.
Reach out for info & please pass to potential students (even July '22 finishers – may have another position later in year).

PM here or @ConradGoodwin to discuss opportunities in #felement#actinide#chemistry in our research group at UoM Department of Chemistry.
Projects focus on inorganic synthesis and using redox chemistry to probe metal-ligand covalence across the early-mid actinides. #ChemJobs
University of Manchester (@OfficialUoM) has fully-funded PhD for strong candidates.
1) President's Doctoral Scholar Award (https://t.co/0wMBW7bGUN)
2) UoM-China Scholarship Council Joint Scholarship (https://t.co/XoSAwk13C9)
PM to discuss projects/applying. #ChemTwitter
