No Scotland, No Party 🏴
We’re 37 days away from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, highlighting Scotland, who are looking to advance past the group stage for the first time 👏
Last night was the first time in 17 years, since against Spain at Euro 2008, that Greece have scored the first goal in a competitive game and lost. 122 matches.
And by the way, I'm not bitter or anything. But:
Despite getting (back to back promotions) to get into League A, and then not getting automatically relegated - we're the only team that'll be playing in Nations League Quarter Finals or League A playoffs that's as low as Pot 3. We're also below Switzerland and Poland who have been relegated automatically.
But that's just the FIFA World Rankings, get over it?
Ok, but we've been shafted by the Nations League playoff spots too.
England, Wales, Northern Ireland and even San Marino (probably) were all in the Leagues below us and are all almost guaranteed a World Cup playoff place - even if they finish bottom of their World Cup qualifying group. We have to finish 2nd to get a playoff place.
In the Euro qualifying campaigns, it's the opposite -we'd almost be guaranteed a playoff place by virtue of being in League A, but it's a different system for this World Cup campaign. So there's been absolute no strategic benefit to Scotland being in League A just before a World Cup campaign. Impossible to plan this, but being in League A before a Euros campaign but getting relegated so we're in League B before the World Cup campaign gives us an infinite loop of maximising our chances at a 'backdoor' playoff spot for every campaign.
Lastly, in hindsight - that big stretch of games where we couldn't buy a win. If even one of the difficult friendlies (England, France, Netherlands) were changed for a game against a smaller nation and we won - we'd have been in Pot 2 for this World Cup draw. Hopefully the draw is kind to us in December. Assuming we go to a group of 4, something like Switzerland, Romania, Scotland and Latvia would be good.
First sentence was a lie.
Just 2 years ago, Kilmarnock and Arbroath were battling it out for the Championship title.
Next season, one will be in Europa League and the other will be in League One 🤯
⚽️🏴 SPFL EUROPEAN PLACES - WEEKLY UPDATE 🏴⚽️ (1 minute reading time)
🆕 Latest SPFL league table with the European competitions & rounds each team would enter in, as well as minimum European prize money & dates of first European match - with only 4 SPFL games left to play!
6⃣ No change in the top 6, Hearts🇱🇻 now 11 points clear of 4th with 12 to points to play for - not quite mathematically assured of 3rd place
🥊 Massive match next weekend with Dundee hosting St Mirren in the hunt for the last European spot, the buddies have a 2 point lead in 5th
🍀 Celtic remain 3 points clear of Rangers🔵, with both at home next weekend; Celtic host Hearts and Rangers face Kilmarnock
🏆 If Celtic 🍀 end the weekend 4 points (or more) ahead of Rangers then they can win the league at Celtic Park vs Rangers🔵 on matchday 36 (11th May)
🔵 The earliest Rangers could win the title is matchday 37 (but it would require Celtic to lose their next 2 home games)
🍀🔵 Celtic & Rangers fans can read more detail about their potential European earnings in both the Champions & Europa League in this thread https://t.co/M3X9hc2svA

Interesting look at offensive play-caller rankings from
@PattonAnalytics.
My biggest Takeaway is pure confirmation bias:
Arthur Smith is not only the worst but twice as bad as the next closest 💀
📰 The only other team to beat both Rangers and Celtic before the end of August were Hibernian in 1972/73 and 1973/74.

Crazy news breaking here state the Polish referees appointed to the AEK vs Aris match got drunk on the flight to Athens, got into a physical altercation with passengers & have now disappeared potentially throwing the match into disarray.

In 1951, Adelbert Ames created the mind-boggling ‘Ames Window’. It’s so effective that even when you know how it works you can’t break the illusion
