“to bring one's beliefs out into the open... implied the truth one lived by was valid through and through and that its writ ran everywhere.” Derek Kidner

What made the farmers fight in 1775?
Judge Millen Chamberlain in 1842, when he was twenty-one, interviewed Captain Preston, a ninety-year-old veteran of the Concord fight:
230 years later and these words ring true;
“…unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.”
- George Washington 1796

I think after people are invested in someone, and then they're lied to, even though they know they're lied to, it's hard, if not impossible, to admit it, because if you admit it, you also have to admit, even if only silently, that you were taken in.
Pride gets in the way.
@GWOTMF Please define “spirit of listening” as it's one of those vague nice-sounding phrases w/o any definitive commitment to act.
I have no idea whom you think you're fooling w/this PR jargon. We've heard it all before.
This is the United States paying a terrorist regime through a proxy. The United Arab Emirates would not be giving this money to a terrorist regime without our permission.
@KickboxerEsq@GovRonDeSantis@ByronDonalds Excellent statement. "I wouldn't have qualified when I ran in '18." And he makes the point about candidates building coalitions, which has become a lost art the past few cycles.
The Florida GOP is running a blatant scam.
🚨NOW: Gov. Ron DeSantis pushes back on Florida GOP debate restrictions, saying party officials shouldn't decide who gets on stage.
@GovRonDeSantis: "I wouldn't have qualified in 2018. It's counterproductive when you try to engineer an outcome."
Trump may as well have called the rest of us peasants.
According to him, it wasn’t workers who built America. It was rich guys like him and his cabinet:
“These people built the country, not the complainers. The complainers didn’t build the country…. Whether it’s fishermen or farmers or anything else. Me. Guys like me, they built the country. And you know, I watch all these ingrates, they’re always complaining, complaining. They didn’t build anything, they couldn’t build anything.”
FL's @GovRonDeSantis criticizes the @FloridaGOP's debate criteria, saying the party should not “engineer an outcome” in the governor’s primary:
“There should be a debate... having an open process and having people be able to have their say is always better.”
“…our right to life, liberty, the use of our faculties, the pursuit of happiness, is…impressed on the sense of every man. We do not claim these under the Charter of kings or legislators; but under the king of kings.” Thomas Jefferson to John Manners, 6/12/1817. #NaturalRights
“...all men are equally entitled to the free exercise of religion, according to the dictates of conscience; and that it is the mutual duty of all to practise Christian forbearance, love, & charity, towards each other.” Virginia Declaration of Rights, Art 16, adopted June 12, 1776
12 June 1788: “...I dread the depravity of human nature. I wish to guard against it by proper checks.... I will never depend on so slender a protection as the possibility of being represented by virtuous men.” #PatrickHenry, speech in Virginia Ratifying Convention.
