@suttontrust@ucl Bursaries are means tested and cover a large portion of the fees.. Scholarships are merit based and only provide a token discount on fees.
You can’t lump them together and pretend they’re the same thing.
A year and a half into @UKLabour's education tax:
65k children have had their education disrupted.
The government predicted 37k "long-term".
105 schools have closed.
Labour said there was no evidence any would shut.
The policy that was supposed to raise money. It is now a cost
@CitroenUKPR@jewelsthecrown I’ve been trying to get through sine receiving the first recall letter, and now today a Stop Driving Alert. There is NEVER any reply. I’m so tired of listening to Vivaldi. This situation is a total shambles.
Only @RachelReevesMP is surprised when people do what was entirely expected, predicted, and pre-warned about.
Just the same with #SchoolFeeVAT she said:
❌ Schools can "absorb" it – Wrong, it’s being passed on.
❌ Schools can “Cut their cloth” = job losses 💼
❌ Only 3,000 students will leave yr 1 - Over 10,000 now 👨👩👧👦
❌ No exemptions - Wrong, US military gets one, specialist dance/music schools too 🇺🇸
❌ Plenty of space in state schools - there's not where it's needed🏫
❌ Bursaries/Community facilities won’t be harmed- Wrong, schools cutting back 💔
❌ Parents can afford it-Wrong, numbers falling and overseas students are looking elsewhere 🌍

Sorry for the longish post but there are so many false claims on X that I thought it was worth while.
The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse was set up by Theresa May and reported in October 2022. The Grooming Gangs Taskforce was set up in April 2023. 550 suspects were arrested in its first year. 4,000 victims were identified and protected. Stop claiming Tories did nothing for 14 years. It is grossly untrue.

Of course more needs to be done, and the Conservative party are calling for that.

It is the Labour Party who are refusing to join the dots. I think they are worried it is far too close to home. Labour councils failed to act. They even employed a rape gang ringleader.

The role of the CPS needs to be fully investigated. Nazir Afzal the Chief Prosecutor for the North West of England has made contradictory claims. I quote him here "in 2008, the Home Office sent a circular to all police forces in the country saying "as far as these young girls being exploited in towns and cities (are concerned), we believe they've made an informed choice about their sexual behaviour and therefore it's not for you police officers to get involved in." You can listen to him speak these words here.

He has since stated that he has no knowledge of the Home Office sending out any such document.
Jess Phillips has rejected Oldham council's request for a Home Office inquiry. What is she trying to hide?

“The absence of a charge is not a tax break, and any money it may raise has not been hypothecated for education. This is a highly political tweet at odds with the proper neutrality of the Treasury and the civil service. “👏@Jesse_Norman@pritipatel
Agree!
Polls like this reinforce the misconception that schools don't pay VAT on anything – a myth driven by Labour's ridiculous PR spin. 🤦♂️ Independent schools do pay VAT on their purchases, like everyone else. As a sector, they contribute billions in taxes to the exchequer. #EducationNotTax
The UK economy benefits from £16.5 billion from private schools, while state schools receive £4.4 billion in subsidies.
Nevertheless, @bphillipsonMP and @Keir_Starmer willfully deny the importance of private schools to the economy!

This whole ‘exposé’ on the Royal Family’s monetary matters by Channel 4 is really stupid.
Firstly, they haven’t actually discovered anything new.
Secondly, there’s big contextual elements missing, which I’ll go over below.
Thirdly, it’s further evidence that many British republicans will believe anything anti-monarchist, regardless of its actual validity.
Let’s review the facts, shall we:
1) All property transactions for the Duchy of Cornwall have to be approved by the treasury, with their accounts laid before Parliament.
2) The Duchy of Lancaster’s management is administered by the Duchy Council. Said Council is responsible to the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster - usually a cabinet minister.
3) Both Duchies are independently audited, and their economic performances are freely published online.
4) Both Duchies pay income tax since the early 1990s - which is purely voluntary, for reference.
5) Both Duchies are private portfolios, dating back 800 years or so. (I see people online trying to link them with the Crown Estate - which gives 75-85% of its profits to the Treasury. They’re separate.)
6) Landowners charging rent is nothing new. Grow up.
7) The assets forming these private portfolios are constitutionally inalienable.
In other words, the Royals are not entitled nor do they just take the capital profits; it has to go through said processes above.
They can’t just seize said profits for ‘the vibes’ - which is what many people are implying.
