@GrapheneOS. Genuine question here: What is the reason you allow apps to know when I'm recording the screen/taking screenshots? Why do apps have to have access to that information? Many apps limit functionality when they detect it, such as blocking content and more.

@CHaase23 @dskiuk2 @tomshardware You can play games you've bought from any store on the Steam Deck. It's Linux, it's free (as in freedom). Just add them as non-Steam games. You clearly didn't do your research before commenting.

@xdadevelopers Well obviously, you can only get them in very specific select first-world countries. And even there they're extremely expensive. Availability across different countries is key, but it seems they don't care.

@josethevrtech I don't really understand the thread, I see mentions of /home directory encryption, not Full Disk Encryption, can you confirm if FDE is ever coming to SteamOS?

@Eocter233450 @josethevrtech That's not how it works, there are many other reasons Linux hasn't been mass adopted and "KDE Plasma not being ready for average consumers" is definitely not one of them. My anecdote reflects that it is indeed ready, what's missing is Linux being preinstalled in new PCs and more.

@Eocter233450 @josethevrtech I do expect average consumers to adopt KDE Plasma, I've been installing Linux with that DE to people for years and never had an issue other than the occasional question of where an option in the settings and such. Most people, "the average" use their PCs just to browse the web.

@RyoGrattius @Techjunkie_Aman I use "an actual PC" with an immutable distro, and have been for years. You not liking it doesn't mean it's not good. Flatpaks are very good now (unlike in the past) and for anything else that you might need you can just use Distrobox. Try it for yourself for a couple of months.

@Techjunkie_Aman I love immutable distros, I think they're the future. After using Linux for many years and trying many different distros (yes, Arch BTW too, for multiple years), I still prefer the set-and-forget comfort of immutability. I just wish there was an Artix based Bazzite-like distro...

@Jouhny_Lawrence @Techjunkie_Aman I use Bazzite. Full Disk Encryption is a must-have for me. Especially considering it's a portable device. Yes, sure, it has some disadvantages like slower boot speeds and such, but I'm not taking my device out of the house without proper FDE, and SteamOS doesn't offer that.

@gonxolotl SD stands for "Steam Deck", which is what we're talking about. Not "SD Card". And I'll say it again: Even if I access the Desktop mode on the Steam Deck, that mode isn't optimal to play your games. That's what gaming mode is for. And if Steam servers are down you are locked out.

Steam is down, I can't even use my Steam Deck. I'm literally locked out of it until the servers are back up. There needs to be a FULLY open source alternative to this OS. Something like RetroArch but made an OS, able to connect with multiple storefronts (including Steam).

@gonxolotl The OS is Arch-based, that doesn't mean the OS is fully open-source, you're still forced to log into the Steam interface to access the gaming mode and all its features (even if you want to access them offline). Desktop mode on the SD isn't optimal for gaming.

@NovaXCode I'd make the maximize button actually maximize apps instead of going into fullscreen. I'd also make the red close button actually close the apps instead of hiding them (yes I know you can Command + Q, still not the point). I have many more but I hit the character limit here.
