Associate professor in AEM at UMN starting fall 2021 (previously at Syracuse University). We study unsteady and vortex-dominated fluid dynamics. she/her
#apsdfd2022 has come to a close in Indianapolis! Justin and Alemni gave terrific talks, and Will fielded questions with aplomb during the poster session. Last photo: our favorite annual tradition of joint research group family dinner with the @UNFoLD_EPFL group.

So I got off the wait list for https://t.co/UKNOGB2Cbd and I can’t figure out how to search for someone I might know, but I did find where to share my payment details really easily. 😬
So seems like there will be mastodon, but also I’m hearing about this Post Social possibility? I tried the waitlist, we’ll see if this one goes anywhere:

@MargaretLByron Also, my main rec here would be to reach out to your uni STEM librarian. This is their jam! The awesome @iHartLibraries helped me write a piece of my tenure package.
Come hang out and work with me! Dept of Aerospace Engineering & Mechanics at U of Minnesota seeks to fill one tenure-track faculty position in the area of aerospace systems (guidance, navigation and control), computational fluid dynamics, or hypersonics.

It’s alive!! VR 3D vortex wake of a pitching panel (from experimental data) is up and running on a Vive 2 in Akerman Hall. 🤩 Here’s Alemni navigating her way through a vortex street. NICE WORK JJ!
Last one! I am so pleased with myself for recruiting JJ Serdoncillo to join us as an MS student. JJ worked with me as an undergrad at Syracuse, and was a dab hand on the VR project. We just purchased one for our lab here and are excited to have it running again in a few weeks!
We also welcomed Ricardo Cavalcanti Linhares as a PhD student this fall! He's also planning to work with me and Ellen Longmire after finishing an MS at PUC-RIO studying wax deposition in multiphase pipeline flows. Ricardo brings a lot of enthusiasm and great ideas to the group!
I never finished up intros! Raphael Ribeiro started his PhD here this fall, and Ellen Longmire and I will share the pleasure of advising him. He joins us from PUC-RIO, where he did an MS studying fluid flow in porous media.
Raphael is already a fab catalyst for lab cleanup. :)
Engineering undergrads, recent grads, and MS students, interested in a free trip to Virginia Tech? Apply by 9/21 and come check out the Engineering Mechanics grad program
@BEAMvt! https://t.co/YDz0GpczLK #fluids#solids#dynamics#biomechanics
Now on to the new grad students! Alex Zhu was an Aerospace Engineering and Computer Science undergrad here at the U of M, and is starting a PhD with us this fall. He's interested in applications of machine learning to fluids.
Getting tired of being told that EDI statements for grant proposals should focus only on specific actions we (say we) will take, rather than including evidence of EDI advocacy. What is a stronger indicator of commitment to EDI than past actions? Pretty words, apparently.
Graham Berridge joined the lab this summer as a rising junior! He’s sticking with us into the fall semester, and im@pretty sure he’s going to be writing papers by his senior year. 😄
